Friday@Five Features $3 Margaritas!

That's no misprint!  This Friday at Five there will be $3 Margaritas offered in our BYC Lounge for all comers...and the usual fun with your BYC friends.  To make the party complete, bring some appetizers to share.  See you there...

Meet the Candidates Night a Success

Nominating Committee Chair John Van Haalen organized a terrific "Meet the Candidates Noght" last night at the Club.  Each candidate for officer and trustee came down to meet with members, explain their interest in their respective offices, and answer questions.  Of special interest were the detailed questions asked on our candidates for Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, and Fleet Captain where more than one candidate is running for these important "bridge" posts.  We've posted election information on the BYC.ORG web site here.

The Door Locks are Working!

Thanks to Past Commodore Ray Poorman the new BYC door locks are working on both the upstairs bar side door and the dowmstairs entry by the Ward Room hall.  A single temporary code has been assigned that is in use by the few folks that urgently need access, but with a short time all members will have an opportunity to be assigned codes.  We'll keep you up to date in next week's Jib Sheet with the details as they are worked out.

While Joe Coons did much of the physical installation of the new system, it was Ray who struggled with the arcana of different manufacturer's specs and got the system up and running.  The system allows thousands of codes that can have general or restricted access, and each entry is recorded in a history file so we can see who is accessing the Club.  As soon as you are contacted and given a code to access a door or both doors, remember that this code is exclusively yours!  "Code Sharing" when you give someone your number means you will be held responsible for that person's access to the Club, and if something goes missing, or the Club is left in disarray, it is you that will be held liable.  There is a simple moral:  Don't give your code to anyone!

We're "Clubby" Again with the Burgees Back On Display

Reportedly as a result of efforts by Jody Erckson, many of the Club's Burgees are back on display in the lounge.  Though some tidying and enlarging the display is still going on, our Club now feels more like our place on the Bay.  Come deown and see how it's going...what better time than this Friday at Five?

Limited Dry Storage is Available for Sailors...

The Bellingham Yacht Club, in cooperation with Etchells Fleet 16, has entered into a monumental agreement with the Port of Bellingham with a lease of four spaces desgnated as "dry storage". Prior, storage of sailboats on trailers was prohibited in the Marina parking lots. Etchells and other One-Deign sailboats were required to make ‘unofficial’ arrangements with business owners at the marina   Thanks to the efforts of Etchells owners Pete Ambrose, Jonathan Knowles, and others the agreement was hammered out.  Here is the link to the full story.

Dale Jepsen One Design Regatta (DJOD) September 18th and 19th

As you know we are be hosting the last ever Laser District 6 Championships in the US.  We have been generating a lot of buzz and there should be a big turnout of Lasers from California to Alaska and beyond.   In addition, on a second course, the Dale Jepsen One Design will bring out stiff competition among the 505, A CAT, Flying Scot and who knows who else.  It should be a great event!

Here's where you can come in:  We would like to document it!  If you have a good camera with a long lens , and if you know someone who has a RIB and can help, please let me know.  We could use you on the water.  An idea I had was to sell the entire photo set on a 2 gig card and give all the profits to the junior program.  This could be a several hundred dollar gig, but only IF we can find a kind hearted photographer with access to a RIB.

Also, we need a few people to come out on Saturday Morning to help with registration.  Because we have not been able to get online registration going, it will be busy.

Please call me at 676 4263 with your offer to help.  Thank you so much!     --- Mike Poulos

The Donations Keep Coming In!
Thanks to Mike & Maya Allsop's cousins who have memorialized Buss & Betty Allsop and Brett Morse Allsop with contributions for two more of our lovely BYC lounge chairs.  What a wonderful way to remember special people.  The inscribed chair plaques are on the way.  Remember, you can remember a special family member or boating friend as well when you send your check for $250 or more to the BYC; the money (over $42,000 so far) goes directly to Club improvements.  Call me at 360-739-1528 for details.   ---Joe Coons
