MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS:
LUMMI ISLAND NOTICE: Fire risk is very high. Be careful! Beach fires must be below the most recent high tide level; fires larger than 2' diameter prohibited.
HEY, YOU! There is NO parking in the area directly in front of, and parallel to the Club! Please keep this area clear. This means YOU!
THE PACRIM PUSH IS ON! The PacRim Committee is making a big effort to get the last few home hosts for our visitors September 6-13th. It's a way to be involved in this historic, biennial event (it'll be 12 years before you have another chance) and it's fun and easy to do..click here for all the details from Chairman John Gargett.
SPEAKING OF PACRIM...The Hospitality Committee For PacRim 2014 is looking for some bakers to help out. We need some breakfast breads, muffins (or whatever you do best!) to serve our guests at the club each morning. We need these yummies eight days, Sept. 6 through Sept. 13. Pick the day(s) you can bring something, and let Gail Haines (mghaines@comcast.net) or Brenda Dennis (brendakbear@yahoo.com) know what you will provide. We will send reminders. Thanks for your help in getting our sailors and ambassadors off to a good start each day. If you want to come help serve, let us know. The more the merrier!
GREAT IMPROVEMENT: VC Jonathan Knowles got friend Scott Barricklow of Sky System in Tacoma to install a new High-Def DishNetwork Satellite TV Service at the Club. It's pretty amazing. There are two new HD Receivers, one that replaced the one in the upstairs equipment room and a new one downstairs. We finally get to see the awesome quality of the HD TV's. We also learned that we qualify for a club rate, so we're all square with the vendor. The instructions have changed a little, but will be posted. Bar Manager Steve is evaluating demand for viewing multiple sports games at the same time.

REMINDER: If you use the club for a meeting or just stop by to enjoy some time on the deck, PLEASE REMEMBER to lock and shut all the doors when you leave. The glass doors in particular are notorious for not closing all the way, so please give them a tug and make sure they have locked. It's important that our space remain safe and secure. Your cooperation is appreciated.
FROM OUR BAR MANAGER
Summertime is quiet time at the club, it seems, but there are still burgers, brats and tacos to be had! Stop on by for a  bite and a brew. WED: burgers ’n’ brats starting at 5 and continuing ‘till the fleet’s in! THURS: Featuring Monica’s Mexican, with the best carne asada (that’s grilled steak tacos in Gringo-speak!) and bean burritos this side of the border. FRI: Every Friday is good to stop by the club and hang out on the deck with friends enjoying the magnificent harbor view! Doors open at 3 and it’ll be sunshiny and warm on the deck. See You at the Club! -- Steve Hayward

PITCH POSTER UPDATE. Thanks to all that responded and helped spread PITCH posters last week. We still need a few volunteers to help post them around Puget Sound; so we can have them in every yacht club and marine store from Olympia to Vancouver, BC. We've hit Bellingham, Anacortes, Everett and Seattle but still need help with Canada, San Juan Islands, Tacoma and Olympia. Just walk in with poster (tape & pins) in hand and ask the manager for permission and the location to post. If you are travelling to these towns and would be willing to put up some posters please contact me to coordinate!
We have a stack of PITCH posters in the front BYC lobby and you are free to grab a few if you can post them in a place that potential entrants may see it, just make sure to let me know where it is so we don’t duplicate efforts.  Thanks! Randy Nulle 360-920-3178

YOUTH SAILING NEWS:
VC Jonathan Knowles and BYC Youth Program Coordinator Megan Link had the opportunity to speak to the Sunrise Rotary Club monthly meeting at the Bellingham Country Club last Thursday. After an early morning breakfast, they did a 30-minute presentation on "Bellingham Youth Sailing". For a copy of the slides, email him here. If anyone knows of other organizations that would be interested in hearing about our Youth Sailing Programs, let him know.
MORE GOOD NEWS: BYC's Youth Program is going strong! All the work by Mike Powell, Megan and the Youth Fleet Committee is paying off.  As of 7/25, we have sold 151 or our 180 available sessions, reaching the goal of 150 and far exceeding last year's number of 120.  Fundraising has nearly paid for all the RIB repairs and we have begun growing the "Boat Purchase Capital Fund.  We are now solidly in the BLACK!!! The youth racing team started a little slow, but has grown to over 10 kids.  Our first regatta is the Bellingham Youth Regatta Aug 9-10, with 3 more planned through September. Thanks to the BYC Membership & Board for their support! --- Jonathan Knowles
THE BYC YOUTH REGATTA is well into it's planning stages we are working towards making it a great event and if you would like to help with any of the numerous activities that we need volunteers for we could always do with more willing hands. Please contact Jerry Roloson, j.roloson@comcast.net, who is running the event this year. Also if you have a junior sailor in the family, sign them up to race, this is our one big youth regatta of the year and Bellingham should be represented. Mike Powell - Youth Fleet Captain 310-877-7940360-306-8336
THE PITCH REGATTA is still two months off but has always been a great fundraiser for the youth fleet. If you have or know of any business that would be willing to donate a suitable item for the raffle please contact me at mike@mikepowellphoto.com or Randy Nulle at rnulle@comcast.net.
OUR COMMODORE'S COLUMN:
The Commodore's Picnic is this Saturday, August 2nd, come join me in celebrating my year. We'll be serving chicken, hamburgers, and hotdogs. Beer, wine, soda and water will be provided. Please bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to share - and a lawn game if you have a favorite. Lunch served between 1:00 and 2:00 PM. If you need a ride OR can provide a ride to a member, please contact Fleet Captain Neil Bennet (fleetcaptain@byc.org) or myself (commodore@byc.org). Hope to see you there.
For those of you who were at our Sucia cruise, the incident that occurred there concerned us, and we're discussing it with our leadership. This reminds us to remind you: Our Club will not tolerate abuse of any kind including harrassment, bullying, or otherwise inappropriate behavior in our Clubhouse or at a Club-Sanctioned event. Thanks for helping us with this! Serving you from the Helm, Michele Bodtke, Commodore commodore@byc.org (360) 720-4155

STEVE ROSS'S PHOTO CONTEST:
We had no contest last week (website trouble) but thanks to Jim Gibson for sharing the 7/15 photograph, which was taken in Bar Harbor, Ketchikan. Kevin Schwitter knew the exact location, while Scott McEniry was not quite as close.
This week we took a walk in the woods to find a view of a calm bay and distant shores. If you know the location, send your answer to drsteveross@gmail.com.
