Our first organizational meeting was held on Monday night the 26th, 2010 at the club. If you were unable to attend it, but would still like to help out, please contact me Jody Erickson, Fleet Captain at 360-223-2119 or by email at email@example.com
We welcome your help! It takes many volunteers to put on this regatta; All are welcome to participate! See you at P.I.T.C.H.
The Fleet Captain’s Report
Summer is here and I know many of us are enjoying this wonderful weather and trips out to the San Juan’s. Ahhh life in the Pacific North west is sweet at this time of year. Enjoy it while it’s here!
Please be sure to check your BYC Calendar online for all events and details surrounding our August Venues. This August brings many events for our club, including the Buccaneer’s and Crab Fest Cruise scheduled for August 21, 2010 in Inati Bay. This should be a good time for all! I am sure Rear Commodore Troy Curran and Cori will be giving more details on this event shortly. The following weekend, August 28, 2010 brings the Commodores Picnic in Inati Bay…..So be sure to mark your calendars for these events.
And don’t forget about the P.I.T.C.H. Regatta over Labor Day weekend.
Fair Winds ~ Calm Seas, your Fleet Captain, Jody King Erickson
A Notice to the Membership from the Commodore
It is that time of year again for you to choose who will best represent your interests in the Bellingham Yacht Club for the upcoming year. It gives me pleasure, as your commodore to announce that any person in good standing who is interested in serving as Trustee should come forward at this time and notify me or anyone on the nominating committee, whose names will be published shortly, of your desire to be nominated for the Board of Trustees or the office of Fleet Captain, Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore or Commodore. You must serve a minimum of 12 months as Trustee to be eligible for the office of Fleet Captain, or 24 months as Trustee or 12 months as Fleet Captain to be eligible to run for the office of Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore or Commodore.
The Nominating Committee will be hard at work the next few weeks putting together a slate of eligible and capable persons to serve a two year term as Trustee, and one year term as Fleet Captain, Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore or Commodore. Note the following schedule: The First Wednesday in September is Nominations Night, the Second Wednesday is Meet the Candidate Night, and the Third Wednesday is Election Night. So, come forward and let me or someone on them Nomination Committee know if you are willing to serve your club. With your help we can expect the next year to be a great one.
Pete Foti, Commodore
Friday’s at Five is a W.W.W. Friday, August 6
On December 25, 1990, Tim Berners-Lee, with the help of Robert Cailliau and a young student at CERN, implemented the first successful communication between an HTTP client and server via the Internet.
And then on August 6, 1991 he released the files describing his idea for the World Wide Web.
So now you know the “rest of the story!”
Thanks to everyone that brings food for these wonderful events. You are sincerely appreciated by all.
This Friday let’s do something different:
Last Name: A-M please bring a meat and N-Z a Salad
See you there! Steve Moore, P.C.
New! Cribbage Night At The Club
Last Thursday, while tending bar as a volunteer, I had zero people, as in no one, came in from when I got there at 4:30 till I left at 8:00. This gave me too much time to think, and so Team Thursday (the volunteer bartenders for that night) thought it might be a good idea to do something to bring in people. So, beginning this Thursday, August 5 we are going to begin weekly Cribbage games.
Cribbage is a great card game, very popular with seaman, sailors and fisherman. Hence the reason it is appropriate to begin Thursday Cribbage Nights at the Club. The club opens at 5:00; Cribbage games will start at 5:30 and continue until 7:30 or 8:00. By the time fall rolls around and racing is over, we will probably start a cribbage tournament. By the way, did you know that Sir John Suckling (who invented Cribbage around 1630) was a poet, playwright, master bowler/gambler and notorious womanizer?
So, join us, this Thursday, August 5th, at 5:00 PM (or when you can get there) for Cribbage at the Club. If you are a player, bring your board and cards. If you have never played, we will show you how. Submitted by Team Thursday
Poets Cove – Rooms Are Filling Up, Make Reservations Now!
The 6th Annual Equinox Cruise to Poets Cove at Bedwell Harbor is coming up. You need to get your reservations in to the hotel and marina. Remember, this is our traditional cruise celebrating the end of the season, and it is one of our most popular because of the friendships, the Saturna Island Wine & Harvest Festival, and relaxing in one of the nicest locations in the San Juan and Gulf Islands.
Here is the overview: Show up Friday evening by 1700 for the Dock Party, and somewhere around 1930 Teresa Van Haalen is putting on a rather interesting Scavenger Hunt (ending at the hot tub I am told). Saturday, we will do our potluck breakfast, Saturna Harvest and Wine Festival (or Art Walk) and our Autumn Equinox Dinner. Sunday, breakfast in the Aurora Room, then off for home….at least for some, for those staying, dinner at Hope Bay Inn.
SO - Make your reservation in the Marina for your boat moorage (1-250-629-2111), but tell them it is for the BYC Cruise. For the rooms in the Lodge (or Cottage) you must call the front desk (1-888-512-7638) and tell them you are booking for the Bellingham Yacht Club. If you do not, you are not going to get our special rate of $199. If all the rooms are full, then ask to be on a wait list. We also have a two-bedroom cabin allocated to our block of rooms, so if you would like a luxury cabin to share with another couple, make sure and ask for the Bellingham Yacht Club rate on the cabin as well.
Questions? Call John or Patti Gargett, 360-656-5700, Email firstname.lastname@example.org
