A TRAGIC LOSS
Our dear friend and BYC Member, Don Mierzeski
, lost his life on Blakely Island this past weekend while participating in the Round The County Race. Don was a devoted sailor, racing and cruising whenever he had the chance, and he was a frequent volunteer for our Club. Professionally, he was an experienced financial and systems analyst. He was a graduate of UCSD, and worked for Group Health Cooperative.
All of us extend to Don’s widow, Tina, and her family our deepest sympathy on the occasion of this terrible loss. Our thoughts are with them. Don will be missed by all who knew him.
(The Bellingham Herald’s story of Don’s accidental death, incomplete at this writing, is here.
CLUB SCRUB THIS SATURDAY
Please come and volunteer your time to our Club this Saturday, November 19, beginning with free coffee and donuts at 8:30-9:00.
the official notice.)
This is one of the two days each year (the other is in April) when as many of us as possible gather together to Clean Up - Paint Up - Fix Up our wonderful BYC Clubhouse and all our tangible assets. It’s actually really fun to work together with your buddies and get to know new ones!
We have organized a list
of some fifty tasks (mostly small) that need to be done from cleaning up all our bar service areas and equipment to some ceiling tile repairs to paint touch-up to some light carpentry work…and lots of other chores.
Wear your work clothes, bring some gloves, and if convenient, some tools. You can see the list as of Jib Sheet publication date here if you want an advance look. If you have a pressure washer that you can volunteer, you can really help by bringing it; please let Joe Coons
know you are doing so at (360) 739-1528.
Here’s the good news about this Club Scrub: The list is smaller than most years, and we should easily wrap up in time for the Free Pizza and Liquid Refreshments
at 12:30 or so. Thank You So Much for being a dynamic part of our BYC!
BYC'S WEDNESDAY EVENING SEMINAR

With the Lighted boat parade approaching fast, please come join Steve Ross and Wayne Kelsoe
for a Wednesday Night Seminar on tips and techniques for lighting up you boat for the holidays. Come listen and share your ideas experiences with holiday boat decorations. This is open to all boaters and a must for those who plan to participate in the 2011 Bellingham Bay Lighted Boat Parade on Dec 3rd
. The agenda covers the gamut from pictures of past boats to how to power and build a display and event safety. Sounds great…see you there!
ANOTHER FRIDAY AT FIVE THIS WEEK!

SAILING AWARDS NIGHT THIS SATURDAY
This Saturday evening (11/19) is annual sailing awards dinner to be held at BYC. There will be a pot luck dinner at 6:00 p.m., with the presentation of awards at 7:00.
The fleet will provide a main dish for a $5 donation. Please bring a side dish to share.
All BYC members as well as all non-member skippers that raced in the BYC program this year are encouraged to attend with their crews
Awards will be handed out for all three fleets: The Tuesday night dingy fleet, the Etchells fleet, and the PHRF fleet. Come out and cheer for your friends as they collect their hardware! -- Randy Nulle
DON'T FORGET THE TOM & JERRY PARTY!
The Club's Annual Tom & Jerry Party
is set for next Wednesday evening, November 23, with folks gathgering for T&J's at about 5:30. Featured will be the free libations (with free soft drinks for the young one's and teetotalers) and appetizers supplied by the Club.
This is a great way to kick off the holiday season...and because there's always a good turnout for this festive event, there are a few caveats: Members and their immediate families only, no non-family guests.
Many of us wear "smart casual" clothes, business attire, to make it a little more celebratory.
Judy and I
will be there, and we're looking forward to seeing you! --- Joe Coons
2-1/2 WEEKS TO THE LIGHTED BOAT PARADE
The Lighted Boat Parade is set for two nights, Friday & Saturday, December 2 and 3. FRIDAY NIGHT is a boat parade only; the usual Friday at Five will be on at the same time. SATURDAY NIGHT, however, will feature our traditional Soup Supper after the parade…here’s
the flyer from Donna Olsen
The LBP is one of our most popular events as we share our boat decorations with the community: families gather along The Boulevard, at the Ferry Terminal, and in their picture windows to enjoy the colorful parade of decorated boats. Of course, anyone is welcome to bring their boat (invite your non-member friends to join in!) and on Saturday night, all participants are welcome at the soup supper. This is truly a holiday season highlight for all who participate…
MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL YET AGAIN!
The Club is open next Monday for Monday Night Football with low bar prices and free snacks.

THIS WEEK’S PHOTO QUIZ
, our quizmaster, tells us that no one correctly identified last week’s
location near Seward, Alaska.
This week’s location
is one we’ve all heard and sung about – just remember which road you’re taking.
HERE’S A COOL NETFLIX!
This is very cool (we hadn't seen it before):
