"TIE ONE ON" AND BOAT SHOW BUS WERE HITS LAST WEEK!
Over 45 Members attended the "Tie One On" Knot Tying and Wine Tasting Event on Friday, January 27th. Members brought delicious appetizers to accompany the wine tasting. Many thanks to Penny and Tom Dalgleish
for planning such a fun and educational event for the BYC, and thanks to Samson Rope for supplying the dock lines for prizes. There were seven winners that took home booty for tying the knots correctly and matching the correct wines in the blind wine tasting.
On Saturday the 28th, the BYC-ers on the Boat Show Bus also had a great excursion to the two Seattle Show venues. [If you've never done this, add it to your "To Do" listfor next year: It's such a great way to avoid driving, the parking hassle, and exhaustion, while you yhave a great time with your BYC Buddies!] Vice Commodore Jody Erickson
led it this year, as she's done for all the recent trips. Thanks, Jody.
FROSTBITE CRUISE TO BE FIRST OF SEASON
The First Cruise of the season, but this year we are staying closer to home...
Over the Holidays, John Gargett
and I waxed fondly and philosophically about the beauty and wonder of Our Own Inati Bay. So we decided to welcome ALL to join us in an Inaugural winter cruise over President’s Day Weekend!
Activity plans are still in the development phase, but since there is no requirement to submit a float plan and reservation list 30 days in advance, we can fill in the blanks more and more at each of the two Friday@Five's leading up to the actual departure.
In general terms, we envision leaving BYC sometime on Saturday 2/18 (unless its really nice on Friday) and returning on Sunday 2/19 (unless its really nice and we stay until Monday 2/20 if we have the day off work). Any way, pencil it in on your calendar and shoot me an email or tell me at the club if you can confirm.
Of course, we can work out some sort of ‘ride share’ for those without boats who want to enjoy Inati Bay in the winter! --- Neil Bennett firstname.lastname@example.org
SAVE THE DATE NOW FOR THE DANCE (WE GOT IT WRONG LAST WEEK!)
Save the Date for the Second Annual Spring Fever Dinner Dance on March 31st, 2012. (We will be sending all BYC Members a formal invitation around March 1st.)
You'll enjoy entertainment, cocktails, dinner and dancing held here at our Bellingham Yacht Club lounges and in the beautiful Windows On The Bay dining room.
Watch for the invitation and sign up early
, for last year we sold out in 10 days! See you there.
YOUR PICTURES ARE NEEDED
We need pictures of our BYC Members (with their partners) and their boats for the 2012 edition of the Club's Roster and Yearbook.
To see what they should look like, look in your present Roster at the end of the "BYC Members" section. We will run one photo per membership and one boat if we can…
Of course, if you were in last year's Roster/Yearbook, we already have your photo(s) on file and will reuse it
Only digital images will be accepted
, and they will be cropped as necessary to eliminate extraneous background by the editor; you need not worry about this! Color images are preferred. All submissions are subject to editing and/or inclusion at the full discretion of the editors.
Send your photos to Joe Coons
. Photos must be received by TODAY, January 31 for inclusion.
THIS LINK WILL ENLIGHTEN AND TERRIFY YOU!
With commentary by another Captain, this link sent to us by Member Quinn Selsor will clearly answer any doubts in your mind about the Costa Concordia
cruise ship tragedy in Italy last week. It shows the actual plot from navigation gear of the doomed vessel's course, and the commentary by all-oceans Captain John Konrad will clearly, logically and without rancor describe and analze each of the ship captain's efforts and decisions. It's a must watch...and if you've ever been at a boat's helm, you can learn from it!
