THIS IS A WEEK TO TAKE A BREATH!
You'll see lots of stories here about the past week or so, the Club was BUSY-BUSY, and our Committees are breathing and napping a little (but not too much!) But there IS one thing going on this week...
we will be open our regular hours (see left) with great camaraderie, casual good friends' company, and all the advantages belonging to our great Club can bring. See you at the waterfront.
NEXT WEEK...see left listings too

A GREAT F@5: Our indefatigable Angie Santosuosso chair of the Membership Committee writes: "This past Friday the Membership Committee hosted a groovy 70's Karaoke Friday@5! We all shared a flashback in time to enjoy a delicious 70's style dinner of Shake & Bake Chicken, macaroni & cheese, a deluxe salad bar and to top it off, a chocolate fondue fruit station for dessert!
Several folks brought their favorite 70's yummy appetizers to share as well. The night will always be remembered by the great 70's costumes worn by guests, with a costume contest. "Grand" prize: Jeff Vernon; "Best Couples": Gordy Lavigueure and his date, Mona; "Best Ladies Costume" to Sharon; "Children's Award" one of our visitor's daughter, Sara.
Karaoke was the highlight of the evening, hosted by our new BYC member Christian Opfer! He brought his pro equipment and 4,200 songs from the 50's, 60's, and 70's as well as many of the latest hits to bring out our best singing! If you enjoyed the karaoke entertainment, let Christian know. We'd love to have him share this gig with us again.
Thank you to all who helped make this event such a success: Jim Santosuosso and Susan Henderson made all the chicken, did the prep work for the salad bar, and helped decorate and clean up after the big party! Jonathan Knowles, Donna Olsen and Marian Welsh made the delicious macaroni and cheese. Ginger Thompson brought her scrumptious Chocolate Fondue Fruit dessert - a total hit! Also, thanks to Maya Allsop, Mike Smith and April Sakahara for their salad bar contributions, and Jessica Tolsma and Ean Olsen for helping decorate..and for anyone else who brought food or helped with set-up and clean-up. Finally, congrats to the Membership Committee for another successful event!"
THE SUPERBOWL PARTY WAS A BLAST! This past Sunday, great excitement watching the game, fun times and amazing food, drinks and prizes were enjoyed by all who attended the 2013 BYC Super Bowl Party. Hosted by Jim and Angie Santosuosso, Shaun and Ginger Thompson, Neil Bennett and Susan Henderson, who deserve thanks for organizing such an incredible party in less than 2 weeks! Many helping hands made this a club event that'll never be forgotten. Thank you to all who helped with decorating and setting up our club to accommodate over 150 guests who attended!! Chris Wallace, Jeff Carson, Rick Steidley, Tierney Owens and Tim Mumford were among those who helped with all of these jobs. Shaun Thompson did a fabulous job taking requests for dinner tickets and selling the $1 squares, keeping us posted on the winners of the Super Bowl board. Thanks to Jim Santosuosso, Mike Smith and Tim Mumford for grilling their mouth-watering Tri-tip Steak! The Caesar salad, potato bar and coleslaw were delicious and enjoyed by all thanks to Susan, Ginger, Angie and Rebecca for their help with all of that. Tierney, Levey and Susan made the delicious cupcakes for the party! Thanks ladies!
The Chili Cook-Off went on, too, organized by Neil Bennett and was a success. Jan Robertson bested them all and is the 2013 BYC Superbowl Chili Cook Off Champion. Jan’s entry, Poncho Villa’s Revenge beat out four other chilis in a heated contest...she attributed her success to her recent marriage to Terry Robertson, which she says, ‘has heated up my life’. Congratulations, Jan, you will be honored on the Ladle for all to see.
There were so many folks that helped with clean-up, take-down of all the party supplies, bringing appetizers and other jobs too that we may have forgotten to mention here. Jan and Terry Robertson and Michele Bodtke and Terrry Taveli and all who helped to clean-up, thanks!! To each and every person who helped with even the smallest job, THANK YOU!! Because of the many volunteers who helped, this amazing Super Bowl Party was an incredible event for all of our guests!
Congratulations to the lucky winners of the Super Bowl prizes: Anndi Pena, Levey Mamaril, Roland and Carol Alberto and Geoff and Tricia Chamness. We hope they will enjoy their prizes...many other guests enjoyed the door prizes they won too! Thank you to Tierney, Kathy Hanson, Kelly Mumford, Rebecca and Jessica Tolsma for their help with passing out all the prizes. Finally, thanks for the fine job of bartending by Tea. Thanks to Susan and Terry for stepping in to help behind the bar during our busiest hours of serving.
OUR FIRST "BYC JAZZ SUPPER CLUB WAS A HIT... With a blockbuster trio of musicians and a terrific vocalist, 63 Members and guests came together on Sunday, January 27 at our beautiful lounge to enjoy fine jazz and a good supper, and with over $700 in bar sales, the Club made money, too! Joe Coons, who organized this first "Supper Club" has already sent questionnaires to all who came, and the score is a solid 4.8 out of 5 for the good time and entertainment. Along with Matt Dennis, Joe has scheduled the second-such event on Sunday, March 24. Details will be out soon.
BARTENDING CLASS SUCCESSFUL: We had a very successful MAST (bartenders license) class last Monday evening. Seven of our new members attended the class along with one returning member. Kevin Stump (Kevin the Wine Guy) came up from Seattle to teach and entertained us with a 100% passing rate, a very enjoyable evening. Thanks and congratulations to our following members: Carla Lee, Daryl Lin, Eric Senuty, Jennifer Dodge, Joe Coons, Mark Harding, Scott McEniry and Tim Thompson. --- Carol & Joe Young, who run our bar!
A YOUTH SAILING REMINDER: Seventy letters were mailed to the participants of last summer's Youth Sailing Classes informing them of a get together at BYC on Saturday, March 2 and of the fund-raising cruise on the Zodiac Saturday April 20. Anyone interested in either event can go to the byc.org website and scroll down the main page to get details of these events and RSVP for March 2 and/or purchase spaces on the Zodiac. There are only 49 spaces on the Zodiac so I suggest you get your reservations in early.
FROM OUR COMMODORE
What a week! Many things are happening at the BYC! The 70’s F@5 was a big hit!
Thanks to all of you who this so spectacular. The karaoke and the food was grand! What a fun night. The costumes were unreal….One new member told me that she didn't know she needed costume wardrobe to be a member; I laughed and told her our Value Village secret and Goodwill; if you want to dress up you don't have to spend a fortune! This Membership committee rocks! Great Job!
The Super Bowl party was packed! SRO and many new faces. If you missed this, it was a bunch of fun, and very well attended; I was delighted when the game got interesting! Thanks to the Superbowl helpers that made this special. The prizes were spectacular and the team that put this together amazes me. "Thank you!" is just not enough!
Did you see? The ground hog came out and said that an early spring and summer are headed our way. After all the rain, I am sure it will be wonderful to see the sunshine finally appear; our snowbirds come back, and get to serious boating!
Be looking for our next events!
"The Why Knots” are on the schedule, and don’t forget Boating Education events coming up, plus the Spring Dance around the corner. Meanwhile, if you see the San Juan Sailing folks, don’t forget to thank them for the Boat Show tickets
. I know many of you got them this week! Thanks, Roger Van Dyken and Rick Sale...
