Final Call for Officer, Trustee Nominees

This Wednesday the Nominations Committee (per the By-Laws Article IX, Section 2(F)) will present to the membership via the BYC Website and Club Email at least one nomination for each elected Officer position to be filled, and at least two nominations for each Trustee position to be filled on the Board.  In the meantime the Committee is continuing to seek anyone who is qualified to run for the office of Trustee, Fleet Captain, Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore or Commodore.  If you are interested, please contact one of the Committee members listed below so they can get you into the process in time.  If you don't make this deadline, you still can run, but you will not be listed on Wednesday as a Candidate and you will have to be nominated from the floor on Nomination night.

To add your name, or get answers to questions, contact any of these Committee members: John Van Haalen (, Randy Nulle (, Karen Callery (, Jon Seestrom, (, Cheryl Meyers, (, John Gargett (, or Kathy Brown (

Voice Your Opinion this Friday at Five at Our "Town Hall Meeting"

Commodore Pete Foti and Vice Commodore Michele Bennett are inviting members to participate in a town hall-style meeting this Friday; the session will start at 6:00 p.m.  They say, "With elections right around the corner and a change of watch at the helm coming up, we are looking for your feedback.  What do you want from your Club in the year ahead?  Tell us your gripes.  Tell us what you do like.  We look forward to seeing you there!"  [I, for one, will be there taking advantage of this chance to "hear" and "tell" --- Ed.]

Commodore's Picnic is This Weekend!

Is everyone ready for the Commodore’s Picnic?  It is this coming Saturday, August 28th at Inati Bay.  Come over as early as you want—some anchor up the night before.  Chef Kehoe will have the food ready to serve around 2pm or so.  Bring a side dish to share—the club will provide the main course, plates, utensils, napkins, pop, water, keg beer and wine.  If you prefer to bring your own, you are welcome to.  We will have games and activities for everyone, so come on over and enjoy your outstation for the day, or the weekend.  I’ll see you all there.    Pete Foti, Commodore

Our BYC Stimulus Package: No Dues Increase!

Because of everyone’s support and hard work we will NOT be raising dues this year!!  That is despite the fact that our Inati Bay lease went from $2500 to $6000 per year, and we also have to have flood insurance, at around $5000 per year!  Those expenses alone are up over $8500 per year, but we are covering them --- and more --- without raising dues.  We are healthy and managing our assets well.  Here's to all of you who have helped to maintain and improve our club and finances:  Keep up the good work!
Pete Foti

PITCH is Just a Weekend Away...

Our big annual regatta, the Pacific International Ton Championships (PITCH) as always is Labor Day weekend, Friday Evewning, Saturday and Sunday, September 3-5.  With a good turnout expected, we can always use your help at the Club helping to make our many guests welcome and assist in servcing or race committee work.  If you can help, call Jody Erickson at 360-223-2119 or email

Poets Cove Cruise Close

It's now less than a month until the Poets Cove Cruise.  You need to click on the link below if you're coming!  By the way, you'll remember the Pirates of Poets Cove last year; two of the story's characters wound up in love, and both survived the book.  It looks like, this year, we're going to have a marriage celebration...really!  You canh register by calling John or Patricia Gagett at 360-656-5700 or emailing

Welcome to More New Members!

Our Membership Secretary, Michele Bodtke, advises us of two more new Members in our Club: Wendell & Erlene Poole have joined our BYC. They live at 1749 Sapphire Trail, Bellingham, WA 98226, and can be reached at 360-671-1005 (home)  or 360-739-9707 (cell).  They're boatless...for now!  Welcome, Wendell and Erlene...

Our Semi-Annual Club Scrub Date Has Been Set...

October 9 is the date set for the annual Club Scrub...put it on your calendars now.  Starting at 9:00 a.m with doughnuts and wrapping up with pizza and beverages at 1:00 p.m., this fun gathering will take let you help us take care of dozens of little chores and some larger ones.  It's a great clean-up, paint-up, fix-up way to get to know Members of our Club, and it's a huge money-saver for our organization, keeping our dues down (see story above.)  See you there.

Member Blogs on the BYC Web Site!

When the BYC website was recently redesigned, Sally Poorman mentioned that members could have hosted blogs on the BYC server, to share their cruising, racing and boating experiences. While thus far we haven't had much interest, Ray and Sally Poorman have started an example blog while they cruise the Gulf Islands this month. Check out to follow their current cruise, and consider starting one of your own! Just another benefit of BYC membership...
