AHOY CRUISERS! Our first cruise of 2014 is coming up next month, February 28-March 2, at Cap Sante Marina, a beautiful Northwest marina. We encourage all sailors, power boaters and land cruisers to come! Folks who don't have a boat or don't want to bring it can still come! Friday night at 5 is "Happy Hour at the Party Barge".  Then our 1st-ever Chowder Cook Off will be on Saturday evening held in the enclosed party barge. Fleet Captain Neil Bennett will be cruise host. For those who want a little exercise, there's walking into town for shopping, visiting the local Anacortes Brewery and restaurants, or strolling the beautiful Washington Park surrounding the marina. Sunday morning we'll have a group brunch before we head home. Please contact Angie Santosuosso, BYC Cruise Director for questions, as well as to give her your boat information to reserve your slip at Cap Sante Marina. Contact her by either email or phone:  360-319-7863
"LIKE" BYC YOUTH SAILING FOR INFO!  The BYC's Youth Sailing Fleet and BYC Youth Racing Team will be using Facebook to post news and information about learn-to-sail classes, racing schedules, youth events and programs. So, "LIKE" Bellingham Yacht Club Youth Sailing, --- Megan Link, BYC Youth Sailing Program Coordinator
CRUISING REMINDER: Angie Santosuosso is BYC Cruise Chair for 2014. She has some amazing cruises for our members, including three on land and more than ten on water!  You can help host one or more, to destinations such as Deer Harbor, Rosario Resort, Sucia, Friday Harbor, Anacortes, Poet's Cove, Desolation Sound and our own Inati Bay! Angie's done a lot of the groundwork, reserving slips and supplying basics; you will help with planning of activities and at the cruise. Please contact her to help!  It'll be fun for all, including you! Email or call 360-319-7863.
PAST COMMODORE'S CRUISE SET: PC Jody Erickson has set the date for July 18-19-20 at Rosario Resort with lots of activities!  Put it on your calendars now and plan for a fun time!
RECIPROCAL NEWS: The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club will be unable to offer reciprocal moorage this summer due to construction.
“PRICE ROLLBACK ON BEER!!!”  That’s right, in celebration of the Seahawk victory yesterday – well, that’s not the only reason :) – the price of tap beers at the bar is being rolled back to only $3.75 for pints and an even 3 bucks for schooners! (And if that isn’t cause for celebration, I don’t know what is!) So come on in and down a pint or two and let the good times roll!
In other news, we’ve added, by popular request, a gluten-free vodka to our line of spirits. Tito’s Handmade Vodka hails from Austin, Texas, and is said to make the best vodka and tonic in the universe! Of course, you’ll no doubt want to confirm that claim on your own, so stop on by and order up a V&T and check it out for yourself!
Just down the line from the vodka rack, we’ve also upgraded our tequila line. El Jimador is a 100% blue agave tequila (in the tequila world, that means it’s the Real McCoy) that in most bars is an upgrade but at YOUR BAR it will be the standard copious 1.5 ounce pour (think of that as just another benefit of club membership!) We also have brought back other tequilas that had been absent from the lineup, like the always popular Tarantula and (soon to arrive) Don Julio. ---- Steve Hayward

THE JANUARY MEMBERSHIP MEETING LAST WEEK featured reporting from Commodore Michele mainly about the Club's new organization charts which will help you visualize how we work.  You can see them here...

WE WILL STILL NEED VOLUNTEER BARTENDERS to help Steve cover events, except now there'll be a pro on hand to help with your bar duties. Thanks, volunteers! Email Steve here.
THE ROSTER IS COMING, HERE ARE THREE THINGS TO DO (DEADLINE 1/26/2014): (1) Send your best photos for inclusion in our BYC RosterIf you're not already in the Roster (which is mailed around February 1), we want a good shot of your faces and your boat! (We can crop your photo for you!)  Look at this year's Roster photo pages in the back of the "Members" section to get an idea what we want. Send photos with the names of the subjects listed to  (2) Send us the name of organizations you work for. This will give our Members a list of BYC folks with whom they can do business.  They also go there... (3) Be sure you check your address in the your 2013 Roster to be sure it's correct; if not, let us know at! (4) Remember that the Roster address listings are never to be used for any solicitation of any kind not directly related to our BYC!  Thanks! --- Joe Coons. Roster Editor
For those of you that missed last Friday at the club, you missed a real treat. "Thank you" to the Jazz Supper Club Committee for bringing in the local Bellingham Youth Jazz Orchestra comprised of young aspiring musicians, grades 7-12,  from all over Whatcom County. The kids were thrilled and had a great time. (One of the moms told me how excited the kids were to play at the 'Yacht Club' - a change from their typical venue, nursing homes and the like!) What a wonderful opportunity to encourage young minds and talents. Thank you all Members that were there supporting the kids...
Up next - the boat show bus and then the Super Bowl. Thanks to Donna Olsen for leading the charge on organizing the boat show bus, and to Neil Bennett for agreeing to be the mixologist. And thanks to Jim & Angie Santosuosso, Neil Bennett, and Tim Mumford for organizing the Super Bowl Party - Go Hawks!!!  ---- Serving you from the Helm, Michele Bodtke, Commodore

BOATING COMMUNITY NEWS: Our colleagues at the Corinthian Yacht Club are sponsoring a dance to raise money for The Community Boating Center down in Fairhaven. Good for them! You can get info about the event here.
Last week's photo was of BYC's own Jamoca, sailing under the command of a Japanese crew in the 2002 Pacific Rim Regatta on Bellingham Bay. Terry Tavelli, Donna Olsen, Randy Nulle, Lisa Megard, Jamie Foti, and Al Callery all correctly identified the boat and occasion. The Pac Rim Regatta returns to Bellingham Bay this September, watch future issues of the Jib Sheet for details on how you can participate and observe.
This week we see smaller boats in our picture, with an impressive backdrop to their cruising. If you know the location of the photo, send your answer to
