WE'RE STILL IN!
Well.... shucks.  The Super Bowl didn't end like we had hoped, but for the dozens of members and guests gathered at the Club, it was still a great way to spend an afternoon.  Special thanks go to Jim and Angie Santosuosso, Trustee Missy Steffen, and RC Neil Bennett for doing the lion's share of the organizing.  To Scott McEniry and Cathy Franklin for being superb bartenders.  To Keith Olsen and Jim Santosuasso for being the master grillers and to Katy Day for her famous Caesar salad.
Here's to next year!  GO HAWKS
CHILI CONTEST YOUNGEST WINNER EVER
Bringing childlike imagination and super awesome flavor was young Lauren Starr, and her 'Beef Mode' chili. When asked by the media, she answered, “I’m just here to win the chili cookoff against all the old guys; it really was a family (team) event’.  Way to go, Lauren!

YOUTH FLEET NEWS

Youth Sailing News
Tuesday's in February, the High School Sailing Team will be hosting rules talks 6p - 8p in the BYC Ward Room.  These talks are free and open to absolutely everyone from all fleets, Etchells, Laser, 505, WWU Sailing Team, Tasars, PHRF and anyone else.  The goal is to cover the racing rules, specifically those of Part 2 - When Boats Meet.  We will focus on one or two rules per week, the basics of that rule, special situations for the rule, and how you can apply this rule tactically.
This coming Tuesday will be the first week and we will continue until the first week of March when we start practicing.  The talks will be downstairs of the BYC.
This weeks talk with be on Rule 18, Mark Rounding.

Thank you again for your help.  --Trustee Mike Powell

Jonathan Knowles, Scott Wilson, Megan Link and myself headed down to Seattle for a very informative day at the eighth annual Youth Sailing Coaches Clinic hosted by The Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center.

A record number of attendees made it very clear that the enthusiasm for youth sailing in the Northwest isn't just restricted to the Bellingham area as we heard of new fleets being supported up and down the coast. Surely a good sign for the sport and kids.

Andrew Nelson our regional youth sailing director put together an impressive list of presenters and also unveiled a new website (built while resting from a herniated disc) that brings together a myriad of awkward websites into one easy to use guide to all things youth sailing. Thank you for such a great job Andrew.

CRUISING NEWS

"It's all about cruising!" March 6

Come for the Friday at 5 on March 6 and stick around for dinner served up by your cruising committee. We're serving a pasta bar, sautéed veggies and salad.  After dinner, we'll tell you all about the great cruising destinations we have planned and also share our new improved website with you.

Inati Bay Raft Up and Progressive Dinner March 14 and 15

Registration is now open for our first cruise of the season to Inati Bay on March 14 and 15. We are planning to raft up in beautiful Inati Bay and have a potluck-style progressive dinner on Saturday night with a St. Patrick's Day Irish theme. The progressive dinner will include appetizers, dinner and dessert with each being served on a different boat. Then on Sunday morning, breakfast will be served. We're looking for help with this event, so if you can volunteer your boat to host part of the progressive dinner please let us know.

New this year, you can register on the website and you'll be able to see who has already registered as well. Here's the link: http://cruising.byc.org/2015-byc-cruise-registration-forms/

As always, you can go to the cruising website at http://cruising.byc.org/ for a complete cruising calendar and details on each cruise. Get them on your calendar now so you don't miss out on the fun!

COMMODORE'S COLUMN
As with most of you, I was feeling a little depressed about the Seahawks Super Bowl loss…  that was,  until I reflected back on the amazing season they gave us.     You can’t let one bad luck play in the last 30 seconds of the game wipe away the successes and excitement of an entire season... or past two years for that matter.     But more importantly, on what an amazing team they are and how they unite a region of the country into a single “community”.  A community with common passions and goals much like that of our club.
The Super Bowl Party at the clubhouse was off the hook… Jim & Angie Santosuosso and Missy Steffen pulled off yet another amazing event this year.  Most of us don’t completely fathom on how much time and effort goes into planning these events… getting the message out,  worrying about signups, picking up the prizes, finding help, shopping for food, and cooking over a 100 steak dinners!!!   I am pretty confident that I can speak on behalf of the entire BYC membership, THANK YOU!
Upcoming over  the next two weeks… The Board is having a Strategic Planning meeting on Wednesday,  It’s Friday’s at Five this week … I’m still looking for  members to help organize  and come up with Themes, look for details on a Sail Fleet meeting coming up soon and I desperately need help with the BYC Roster Committee.
So… take a deep breath, Keep Calm and Carry on.  --Commodore Jon
THIS WEEK'S PHOTO CONTEST:

Thanks to Donna Olsen for last week's picture of the Race Rocks Lighthouse, familiar to sailors of the Swiftsure Race. Terry Tavelli, Michele Bennett, Randy Nulle, David New, and Jim Gibson correctly identified the location. Marty Haines and Jaime Foti named other lighthouse that are similar in appearance.

This week we see a boat speeding through a narrow channel. If you know the location, send your answer to drsteveross@gmail.com.
