FIRST MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL HUDDLE A HUGE SUCCESS!

The 1st night of Monday Night Football was a huge success!

The crowd was treated to grilled steak, Caesar salad and roasted corn on the cob, cooked specially by our Commodore Bennett and her helpful hubby, Neil. Thanks to Terry Tavelli and Jeff Vaughn for bartending.

The annual football pool was inaugurated on the second game of the evening. Raiders vs. Broncos. When the numbers were drawn and the game was ready to start, 31 of the 100 squares had been spoken for. As a reminder, the rules of the annual pool state that winners must be present for 30 minutes of the game to collect the full prize of $10 per quarter and $25 for game ending score. If not present, they donate half of their winnings.

The first quarter (10 Raiders / 3 Broncos) was won by Tim Mumford (not present) despite unsuccessful calls to Tim to encourage him to come double his winnings.

The halftime score was another matter. It was looking like Neil & Michelle Bennett were going to cash in on a 13/3 halftime score but a last second 63 yard field goal put Vicki Nulle into the money with a lucky 6/3 (16 Raiders/ 3 Broncos). Both Vicki and the Bennett’s were at BYC for the game which made for an exciting halftime showdown!

3rd quarter (16 Raiders / 13 Broncos) was won again by Vicki Nulle with her lucky 6/3 number and the game ending winner 3/0 was won by Bill & Pam Heward (not present).  Final score Raiders 23 Broncos 20.

There are still squares left available so get down to the club and get on the board!  Submitted by Randy Nulle

DJOD SEPT. 17th & 18th - SAILORS FROM PORTLAND TO VANCOUVER  COME TO DO BATTLE

Greetings Membership,

We are coming down to the wire for the Dale Jepsen One Design Regatta!  And, there has been a healthy level of pre-registration for this year's regatta.

There will be some great racing action as sailors from Portland to Vancouver come together to battle.

If you have agreed to help, please call or email me, Mike Poulos.  Please help out any way you can.
  • We would love to have people make a pot luck dish for the Saturday evening dinner.  If you make a potluck dish, we will give you a dinner ticket.
  • We could STILL use an 18 t0 20 foot rigid bottom inflatable or whaler type boat.
  • We can use help with set up on Friday evening, and registration on Saturday Morning.
  • We can use a couple of folks over at the dock on Saturday and Sunday to help launch and retrieve boats.

This is a really fun event.  It has been going strong for years and years.  It would not be possible without the volunteer help from Club Members like YOU.

Thank you very much!  AND CALL ME if you can Volunteer at 360.647.7681
Mike Poulos, Trustee and DJOD Coordinator

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

Here is the Election Schedule…

It’s time to start thinking about elections and who you would like to see on your Board for the 2011/2012 year.  We will have openings for 4 Trustees and a Fleet Captain.  Job descriptions for these positions can be found in the BYC By-laws (Articles X and XII), as well as a detailed outline of the election procedures (Article IX, Section 3).

On Wednesday, 7 September, a Nominations Meeting will be held.  Candidates who have chosen to run will be announced and nominations from the floor will also be accepted.

On Wednesday, 14 September, a ‘Meet the Candidates’ night will take place at the BYC.  Candidates, who have decided to run, and have met the qualifications, will be on hand to answer questions and introduce themselves to the membership.  Dinner will be catered through Windows on the Bay Events $8.95 to $16.95.

Finally, on Wednesday, 21 September, elections will take place.  Ballots will be mailed to each voting member and they can either be mailed in or returned in person on election night.  Results will be tallied that evening and winners announced.  Dinner is hosted by Bob "Cookie" Kehoe at $12.95 per person.  Reservations required.

If you are interested in serving as an officer or on the Board of Trustees, please see the story above.  Thanks!

COMMODORE'S COLUMN - 13 SEPT., 2011

Commodore’s Picnic – A Good Time Had by All!
A very special thank you to everyone that came to celebrate both the Commodore’s Picnic and my birthday on Saturday.  What a fabulous day!  Food galore – Pirates – Past Commodores – New members – ‘Seasoned’ members -- Treasure hunts – Water balloon wars – Hula hoop contests – Campfire sing-a-longs – and oh yes, lots of dogs too.  It was truly a perfect day!!

A big HOOTY HOOT to Angie and Jim Santosuosso, Mark and Katy Santosuosso, and their army of volunteers that pitched in to provide all the fabulous food; to all the Dead Pirates for getting everything mowed, and cleaned up for the picnic… and for all the donated rum!; to Roger Schjelderup for being the ‘man behind the BBQ’ all day!

Another Busy Week…
By the time you read this, we’ll have had our first Monday Night Football gathering at the Club.  This was started up last year, as a result of a suggestion at one of our Town Hall Meetings, and it’s still going strong.  Come on down to the Club and cheer on your favorite team!

Wednesday is the Meet the Candidates Night
This is a great opportunity to meet the folks running for office and to hear what they bring to the table.  Be an informed voter – come see who’s on the ballot!  And you don’t even have to worry about missing dinner, because Tom Kilpatrick and the Windows on the Bay kitchen are offering a tasty menu!

A Year Already!
Thursday is my last official Board meeting as your Commodore.  I can’t believe it’s been a year already!  I’ll have a quick report of what we covered in next week’s Jibsheet.
Finally, this weekend is the Dale Jepsen One Design Regatta.  Lend a hand if you can or just head out and cheer these guys on.
See you at the Club!

At your service, Commodore Michele   commodore@byc.org

SKYLARK II UPDATE: from Susie and Gordon

Hi All,
Before leaving Ladysmith I had to go back into town to find an auto parts store. The generator had quit running again, (but this time it wasn't overheating). The electric fuel pump had finally given up it's last breath. Well, that's an easy fix since it's an external one and generic at that. The auto parts had everything I needed, but we were delayed leaving so I decided to install it later. Just as we were leaving the anchorage a big log boom arrived by tug and almost blocked our exit. Ladysmith has a big log mill and it's a very busy working harbor.

It was a nice flybridge day for the run down Stuart Channel heading for Maple Bay. Bob on Island Pilot called us on VHF to advise we couldn't stay at the Yacht Club as they had their big sailing regatta and the docks were full. So on to our next destination, traveling down through Sansum Narrows and Satellite Channel into Dungeness Marina in Cowichan Bay. We always look forward to Cow Bay as the locals call it because it's a funky and fun place with charming little shops. And, we take the bus into Duncan which is the town the serves this whole area.  The crabbing was excellant this year and we got our share over the 2 days we were here.

Next we traveled the 2 miles across Cow Bay over to Genoa Bay and anchored out for two days just for some R & R. Stayed on the boat mostly and caught up on projects.  Bernie & Rea on Lindy Lu had to say good bye this day to keep on their scheduled arrival in Blaine. We have really enjoyed buddy boating with them most of the summer and we'll miss them.

So, Island Pilot and Skylark headed off to Sidney and we landed at the Capitol City Yacht Club on reciprocals which is located in Tsehum Harbor. This is a very nice YC with a brand new building, and it's close to the bus into town.  We always enjoy the shopping in Sidney and look forward to new resturants for lunch, today was Carlos Cantina & Grill on 4th which was very good.  We're anticipating meeting Bob & Marsha on Whimsy tomorrow in Ganges and spending many more days in the Gulf Islands here in BC, Canada.

Note from this week's editor of JibSheet:

I want to apologize for the publishing delay of this week's JibSheet. I was with my mother on who had emergency eye surgery in Seattle on yesterday, Tuesday Sept. 13th.  Last week she incurred a sudden onset of blindness caused by diabetes. The surgeon does believe that it was treated in time and she will have most of her eyesight restored.

I really do appreciate your patience and understanding.  Thank you for the many good wishes for her speedy recovery.
Sincerely,
Kathy Brown  (September's JibSheet editor)
