MEMBER NEWS
It's Official! The holidays are here!
The official BYC kick-off to the holidays - the Tom and Jerry Party - was a great event.  Thanks to the Bridge and Board of Trustees for hosting, and special thanks to Trustee Missy Steffen for organizing the tasty appetizers.
Sink the Dinghy 2014
Another tradition of the Tom and Jerry evening is the announcement of this year's Sink the Dinghy recipient.  PC John Gargett (and guests) told us about Rebound of Whatcom County, where we will be 'adopting' a young single mom, named Adrienne, and her four children - all victims of domestic violence.
Please be as generous as you're able when the hat gets passed around at upcoming Club events these next couple of months.  The wrap-up will be at the 'Souper' Bowl Party in February.
Rebound, is 501(c)3 organization, so your checks can be tax deductible.  To read more about Adrienne's story, click here...

Looking for gift ideas during this holiday season? The BYC cookbook, The Gourmet Galley is a great stocking-stuffer gift for friends and family. Why not pick up a few from the club to put a smile on the faces of your loved ones? -- Alex Marr
Dues Due!
The Bad News on Dues
Today is the official date that all membership dues must be paid otherwise, memberships will stand suspended and no longer privileged to use the facilities of the Club.   If dues are not paid by year's end (i.e. 90 day delinquent), then memberships will be revoked and a new application must be submitted along with initiation fees.
The Good News on Dues
The BYC dues are very reasonable... memberships at only $37.50 a month!  This is less than the price of a cup of coffee a day!   BYC Membership gains you access to the BYC Clubhouse & Lounge, reciprocal moorage, boat storage,  BYC’s Inati Bay Outstation,  Club Racing, Youth Programs, Social Events such as Friday’s at 5 and Opening Day, outstanding Cruises, and the Buccaneers Family Picnic & Cruise. --Commodore Jon

Fridays @ Five 101
BYC’s Friday’s @ 5 happy hours have been the single most substantial social events that have kept the club together after a near death when the Club got out of the private restaurant business and became an All-Volunteer Club.  Participation in these events (that occur on the 1st, 3rd and 5th (Blue Moon) Friday’s of the month) is very simple, but for a refresher course … “Friday’s @ 5 101”
  1.        Have a “Stressful” Friday at work or home.
  2.        In the late afternoon, say to yourself “That’s it! I’ve had enough!”
  3.        Then pick up an appetizer or snack to share and head to the BYC Clubhouse for F@5.
  4.        Next, relax with a cool beverage and the camaraderie of fellow BYC Members.
  5.        Then afterwards, take your honey or a friend out to dinner, a movie, or stay home and catch up on your DVR’d TV shows.

COMMODORE'S COLUMN
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!   I spent the holiday weekend with my family at Sun Peaks Ski Resort where my son Jack had attended a ski racing camp.  The snow conditions were marginal, but at least everyone managed to get a few early season turns while Mt Baker still does not have enough snow to open.
I hope that everyone has been making progress on their Lighted Boat Parade designs this Saturday.   As it stands now, the forecast for Saturday Night calls for clearing skies, temps in the mid 40’s and mild winds at 6 knots. This is pretty average for this time of year.   Don’t forget to break out your family secret soup recipe for the post LBP awards and soup potluck party that starts after the parade.  Club historian,  Joe Coons has forward me the lyrics to the “BYC 12 Days of Christmas”, so start working on your choir voices!
Please save the date on Dec 12th for the BYC Christmas Party.  White elephant gift exchange, piano Sing-along, roasted turkey and 1st annual “Stuffing Contest”!
Cheers. --Jonathan Knowles
THIS WEEK'S PHOTO CONTEST:
Last week's picture was taken on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas. Cathy Franklin, Jim Gibson, Dean Altschuler, Mark Harding, Pamela Heward, Quinn Selsor, Meredith Ross, and Jim Schoenecker correctly identified the location.
This week, we have a cooler scene to go along with our wintry weather over the weekend. If you know the location, send your answer to drsteveross@gmail.com.
