MEMORIAL FOR STERLING AND JIM SET FOR APRIL 14...

We have received notice from representatives of their families that there will be a memorial for Jim Langei and Sterling Taylor Saturday April 14th, from 5PM to 9PM at Windows On The Bay.

Details will be reported as soon as available.

PAST COMMODORE'S CRUISE RESCHEDULED

Out of respect for Jim and Sterling’s memorial service planned for 14 April, I have decided to postpone the Past Commodore’s Cruise.  New dates will be 1 – 3 June.  I don’t know yet if Blakely Marina is available, and if it isn’t, then we will rendezvous at Inati Bay.  I’ll let you know the details as I get things organized – first thing was to let you know about the date change.  --- At your service, Past Commodore Michele Bennett micheleb@spie.org

CLUB SCRUB WORK LIST IS UPDATED & ATTACHED

If you’d like an advance look at the BYC Spring Club Scrub “To Do” list, it is here!  The semi-annual event is this weekend on Saturday, April 7, and runs from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30, followed by pizza and drinks “on the Club”.  Come on down, pick the job you want, or call Joe Coons at (360) 739-1528 and arrange to complete any task you like early!

Please come and help!  It'll be fun and you'll make a HUGE difference to the Club...

JIB SHEET HAD CLUB PACRIM RESULTS WRONG!

The Pac Rim results reported in the Jib Sheet earlier this week were incorrect.  Here is the correct information: Team USA finished in Second Place overall behind team New Zealand.  Team USA Etchells finished second in their fleet (by the way the Etchells were the bigger boats).  Team USA Hood 23s tied for first (we were actually first with no throw outs  but one throw out was allowed and Team New Zealand had a worse race to throw out).  To break the tie, the number of firsts, seconds, thirds etc. are counted.  Both teams had the same number of first place finishes, but Team New Zealand had one more second place than Team USA so we lost the tiebreaker and finished in second place.

Here is a link on the Port Stephens Yacht Club website you can refer to for the overall results.  http://pacrimportstephens.squarespace.com/storage/finalpacrim.jpg.  ---  Thanks to Past Commodore Terry Tavelli for calling this to our attention!

FRIDAY@5 THIS WEEK HAS NO THEME, BUT IS SCHEDULED!

Come on down on Friday the 6th and relax after your hard week's work or just to see your BYC pals.  And, if you can, please bring some appetizers to share!

CHARTERFEST APRIL 21-22 CANCELLED, WILL RETURN IN 2013

Due to the March 30 fire, the Port of Bellingham and participating boat sales and brokerage firms have cancelled the eighth annual CharterFest, which was to be held at Squalicum Harbor’s Gate 3 on April 21-22.

The fire at G dock destroyed 10 boats and took the lives of Members Jim Langei and Sterling Taylor. Even though the fire-damaged areas are not used by CharterFest, organizers felt it was important to cancel the event so that loved ones could mourn and the Port could focus on salvage recovery and the fire investigation. CharterFest will return in April 2013.

Anyone interested in chartering or purchasing a boat can contact participating companies directly.  They are Bellhaven Charters & Yacht Sales, Bellingham Yacht Sales & Charters, Lake Union Sea Ray, NW Explorations, Par Yacht Charters, San Juan Sailing, and San Juan Yachting.  Most are BYC sponsors and their links are above.

YOUR HELP/COMMUNICATION IS NEEDED:

Please contact Legislators with your strong opposition to the "raid" on the Recreation Resource Account

We're down to the wire in the Special Session and the Legislature looks to be still planning to "raid" the Recreational Resource Account to balance the next operational budget. We need everyone to make one more push of phone calls and emails to as many Legislators as you can.

Here is all the "inside Olympia" info for those who want to fully understand the details. Please read if you have time.

If you don't have time, please at least contact your Legislators. It's quick & easy to leave a message on the Legislative Hotline, Toll-Free: 1-800-562-6000

Tell them you want them to: Remove the "RAID" on the Recreational Resource Account in any final budget.

Thank you. Every call and email helps.
