ONE LAST THANK YOU…

It has been a great year. Elections, Commodores Ball, Opening Day, all the cruises and all the club events have been over the top. We have accomplished so much this year and everyone should be very proud to be a Bellingham Yacht Club member.

It’s my honor to announce the winners of this year’s “Commodores Awards”:

New Member of the Year: Jack and Linda Levine
Reset Award: Mark Santosuosso
Boating Family of the Year: Jonathon and Ann Knowles
Volunteer of the Year: Carol Snowball

Make sure you buy these volunteers a round at the bar, they are the heart and soul of our club. Also, thank you to all of the Past Commodores that ran our Installation Night. Everyone was amazing this year.

See you at the club! --- Troy Curran, Immediate Past Commodore

OCTOBERFEST THIS FRIDAY!

Click here for the full details… also, see the story about the Cookbook Project below...

OUR NEW COMMODORE’S FIRST REPORT:

Wow! What a grand turnout for the First Friday @ 5 in my year as Commodore! We were honoring all volunteers and the Dead Pirates, and it came off without a hitch! I am so impressed with our members!  The volunteers and guests that showed up to help pull this off were terrific; we even had two new members sign up during the event.  This provides a terrific start to our membership drive for the year.

We need more of these kinds of events, because the friendship and camaraderie were amazing.  The weather was fantastic and as I cooked over a 100 burgers with the help of Rebecca Hall. (She will become a BYC member soon!) I was in awe of how nice our club looked and how wonderful it was to sit among friends and guests with all of our doors open and in warm temperatures.  How great was that, the sun shining and a festive event, in October no less! If you didn’t make it, we missed you!

I will soon be working with the Membership Committee to schedule a few membership drives before the New Year.  Meanwhile, remember to save the date:  The Lighted Boat Parade is going to be Dec 7 and Dec 8 to co-ordinate with the Port of Bellingham’s “Holiday Port”.  More information on this will be coming soon.

This week brings another host of terrific meetings and events to participate in at the BYC (see top stories above). Our Club Calendar and our Committee Sign-ups will be forthcoming.  We have one terrific year planned for our membership!

Meanwhile, I hope this finds all of our members enjoying our Indian summer and how beautiful the weather has been.  Get out on the water, get with friends and bring your guests to the club.  They will be our new members!

Thank you ALL for what you do for our club! Hats OFF to all our Volunteer Members, for you are what make the BYC.

I am so excited to be of service to you!  Fair winds. ---  Jody King Erickson, Commodore

A GREAT CLASS FROM A BYC SPONSOR:

Here is a great opportunity at TD Curran this month. We are launching our Professional Learning Center which will feature creative workshops on media arts. The first workshop will be an “Introduction to Photography” course taught by one of our staff members.

Kaila Williams is a Brooks Institute of Photography graduate. Kaila has years of experience with photography and you will walk away from the workshop with a solid understanding of your DSLR camera and lenses. I know many of you are interested in taking better pictures and this is your opportunity to fully understand the manual settings on your camera. This is a two day workshop, taking place on October 20th and 27th.

As a Yacht Club member, we are offering you special pricing: 25% off the cost of the workshop or two for the price of one for couples. We have a few DSLRs that can be rented for the day if you need a manual camera for the workshop. Cori and I hope to see you there!  --- Troy Curran, Past Commodore www.tdcurran.com
