LAST WEEK'S FACTOID:  We do not own the land that our Clubhouse occupies, it is leased from the Port of Bellingham, as it has been since the 1960's! The lease is issued with five-year terms, with multi-term options to renew; as you can guess, this has ramifications for Club financing and building insurance and appraisals. You can find out more about our lease by attending a finance meeting, or by contacting our Rear Commodore or Assistant Treasurer. [If you have a BYC Member we should salute in this weekly feature, send details to]
ARE YOU A BYC BARTENDER? Our wonderful bar co-chair, Heather Ouilette, sent out an important reminder memo to all our volunteer bartender this past week, reminding them of some frequently-overlooked items. The memo is here in case you missed sure to read it! 
THE NEW CLUB YEAR BEGINS OCTOBER 1, and the renewal dues invoices for the year were mailed the week of September 2. Also included were an important letter from Michele Bodtke, our Vice Commodore, as well as an interest sheet. If you have not received your invoice, please let me know. (A very special, special thank you goes to Kevin & Kaela Schwitter, Larry & Kristi Blanchard, and Sharon Chang & Daryl Lin for helping make quick work of assembling the packages for mailing. What a team!)
    If you have enrolled in BYC's Direct Debit program (over 70 families already have, and are saving themselves monthly bill-paying effort, and us a lot of office time), you can elect to have your dues payment automatically debited from your bank account by sending me an email ( to that effect. For the rest of you, now is a good time to consider enrolling in the Direct Debit program. A form for that was included in the mailing.
    Quarterly payments: As per our Board of Trustees, any Active member may elect to pay dues quarterly but must enroll in the direct debit program to do so. No partial dues payments will be accepted by any other method.

RACING NEWS: I think fall is officially here which means we have several fall racing opportunities to get a little more wear and tear on the boats and give us winter projects to procrastinate about until spring...
    We are looking forward to the upcoming Marmetta Cup September 28th. Get your crews together, and let me know soon if you will be attending; it would be helpful to know who will be attending the week before the race! This race is a pursuit start where start times are determined by a boats PHRF rating. . Skippers meeting will be at 9:00 a.m. at the Club. Thanks. --- Bart

BUILDING & HOUSE NEWS: By the time you get this, the big roof improvement job should be just about wrapped up (just in time for the rainy season) and work is underway on our front steps refurbishing (while this is going on, you'll have to use the handicapped persons' ramp to left of the steps...the inconvenience will be worth it!)
Wow what a week! The Dale Jepson One Design Regatta came off without a hitch. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers that made this event so wonderful. Special thanks also to Mark Kennedy for stepping up to help Patrick at the last minute at the bar, not only Saturday but Sunday as well. Thanks so much! Mike Poulos always does a spectacular job on this Regatta and this year was no different. It takes a village to pull off these kinds of events, the committee boats and the on the water detail and the shore side details went very well. Here's to next year’s regatta, and a big thank you to all who helped to make this event a success.
   This week brings a busy week for all of us:
  • Wednesday night is election night and I am sure you all will want to be there to see who our board will be for next year.
  • Thursday night is my last official Board Meeting as Commodore and I will invite all the new trustees to this meeting to see how it all works. Neil Bennett has graciously offered to fix dinner for the group and we will have an update as to how we did for this past year. Labor Day usually brings back our Blues uniforms and so wear your blues to this meeting!
  • Friday is a “Friday @ 5” and I am sure Steve Moore will be sending out who is sponsoring and what the theme will be! Hope to see you there unless you're at Poet’s Cove...
  • Poets Cove Cruise is this weekend as well. If you want to go, please contact John Gargett and let him know. He and Patty will have all the details for you. This is always a very fun cruise and the area is a great one!
   It has been a whirlwind year full of exciting new members and events, and a pleasure to serve all of you.  See you at the Elections!
