"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..."  Are you ready for the holidays? I'm getting there, but there is still much to do.  Still, it's important to remember to slow down and just enjoy the beauty and joy of the season.... call an old friend; smile at a stranger; give your dog a hug.

Soup Cook-Off/Seahawk Party a Success!

We had a pretty good turn out at my first annual soup cook off/feed the homeless event here at the club on Sunday with about 40-50 members and guests all together. We all had a great time watching the Hawks crush the Ravens 35-6. We had at least 12 delicious soups to sample, and everyone was to vote for their two favorites. Our very own Steve Hayward took home the gold with his Cream of Potato. Melanie Pysden took silver for her Whiskey Bacon Chicken soup and Brian Barge narrowly won bronze with his Jalapeno Bacon Cheddar.

My Thrivent action team and I were able to deliver 7 gallons of hot soup to the Light House Mission, along with 7 cases of hand warmers and about 10 pounds of coats, hats, and gloves. It’s great to be part of a company that lives generously, and gives back it’s profits to the community.

Many thanks to everyone for supporting this event and joining in on the fun. All your donations of soup and clothing made a huge difference. Everyone had a great time, and we’re looking forward to continuing this event next year, and for years to come!

Thomas Childs

BYC Past Commodores Left to Right: PC Dave Bradley ‘97, PC Rich Veach ‘04, PC Al Callery ‘06, John Gargett ‘02 ,  Max King ‘82, Steve Ross ‘96, Karen Callery ‘01, PC Jonathan Knowles ‘14, PC Neil Bennett (Sloop Tavern), PC Pete Foti ’09 and PC Joe Coons ‘93.
Last Tuesday was the BYC Past Commodore's Annual Holiday Dinner and meeting.   Accompanied by my wife, Ann, this was my first meeting and the newest of the BYC Past Commodores.   On the agenda was to vote me in into the distinguished fraternity of PC’s.   And fortunately, I was narrowly voted in by margin of 13 to 12 (which was a bit perplexing since there were only 9 PC’s voting!).  This meeting is also the time when contributions are solicited for the Past Commodore's Fund.   Those present made contributions which go towards the Inati Bay Outstating lease and other club improvements.   Not only has each Past Commodore contributed to the BYC by serving up to 7 years on the BYC Board, but also continues to contribute by paying their equivalent membership dues.
Also during the meeting, a new PC Commodore Board was voted in.  Congratulations to Karen Callery who was voted in as the new PC President, Pete Foti PC Vice President and John Gargett PC Secretary.    Many thanks go to outgoing PC President Steve Ross who has served the past 6 terms.
The Past Commodores have agreed to Host a Friday’s at 5 around March... so look for a notice in the Jib Sheet.
