Susan Hempler and her Social Committee have a full calendar of exciting and fun events planned!  To view the full schedule, click here!

We are a club anchored in friendship and boating… we are also pretty sure your circle of friends includes some non-members, and we don’t want you or them to miss out.  This year is packed with social events and cruises, and we hope to build on your enjoyment of these events by extending an amazing membership offer to friends and family of current members:
  • Invite your friends to join the club between Dec 18, 2015 and Jan 15, 2016
  • If they apply within that window, their initiation and membership dues are only $375 total!
  • This is a savings of $295!
It's the biggest offer of the year, so if you have friends you would like to bring into our community, don't miss out on this deal!
  • Membership applications are available online or at the club
  • Membership is through our regular year and lasts until September.
  • Renewal is at the regular yearly rate without initiation fees.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Boating Mentors wanted!!!!

Do you remember when you started boating?  ...or when you were considering membership but didn't have a boat?  We are looking for volunteers to act as "mentors".  We assume that you'd be working mainly with a junior member, transitioning from the sailing/racing program... providing an opportunity to learn about boat ownership, potentially go out a few times to learn about larger boats... maybe to Inati, or crabbing or fishing (you don't have to give away your secret spots... unless you want to).  This is meant to add value to junior members, members who aren't as experienced as some of us, and those without a boat (yet).  We're a community, and this is one way to strengthen the bonds to our community, boating and each other... please consider volunteering. We'll let you know how to sign up next week.

New Member Mixer:  this is scheduled for Jan15, but with how busy this season gets, it's never too early to put it on your calendar.  The mixer is for you whether you're a new member or a seasoned veteran, it's a great way to meet, mingle and strengthen our club...

Beginning in January, Tom Dalgliesh is organizing a series of six US Power Squadron seminars to provide a good grounding in seamanship and boating basics. These will be normal Power Squadron seminars with added local content, and we expect many of the instructors to be BYC members. Each seminar will cover a specific topic, so you can choose one or two or all. Seminars will be held in the Ward Room on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. There will be a charge for these events that all goes to the US Power Squadron which develops and subsidizes these seminars. Stay tuned for a complete list of topics!

And, check out winter quarter boating courses offered at the Bellingham Technical College by the Bellingham Sail and Power Squadron. In addition to "America's Boating Course" which will help prepare you for the required Washington State Boater Education Card, they are offering "Seamanship" and "Weather". Go to for more information.

A belated Merry Christmas to all, and to all a HAPPY NEW YEAR! It’s been quiet at the club this past week,, with folks’ focus shifting to the home front, family and visiting friends. New Year’s Eve is fast approaching and your club will be open for the event, so plan to “come on down” and ring in the new year!

WED: Bar and lounge open at 5. We’re stocked with pizzas again to take care of those munchies at dinner time!

THUR: NEW YEAR’S EVE! We’ll have ham and sandwich rolls and baked beans on the buffet line, while it lasts! Bring some sides and snacks or something to throw on the grill and spend the evening! Check out the New Year’s Eve drink specials at the bar, also! Promises to be a fun evening!

FRI: New Year’s Day. Club open for the games, bar closed unless someone twists the bar manager’s arm to open up! Hmm, maybe a Bloody Mary or two?

SAT: Bar and lounge open at 5.

No more Monday nite football, sorry to say, but hang on, Super Bowl is coming soon!

See you in the lounge!

Happy Holidays & New Year from the BYC Sail Fleet…  We look forward to a great 2016 Racing Season!
Jonathan, John, Randy, Eric, Bart, Terry, Rick & Tim

Available on a month-to-month basis until 1 April 2016.  Location is Gate 9, M/W 54.  Only the second dock out and a leeward tie so your boat doesn't blow into the dock during our winter storms.  Has a good lock-box too!

Member Phil Dyer is currently 'between boats' and is looking for someone interested in a sub-lease.  Slip is 1CW.

If the winter weather has you dreaming of cruising trips next summer, you might want to start here!  Found by one of our members... Exploring the Aleutian chain aboard a Fleming 65.

As I have been enjoying the Holiday week with my wife and family, it's difficult to come up with any news. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends, and I wish everyone a most happy and prosperous New Year. Just a reminder that the club will be open on New Years Eve, and there is also a Friday's at 5:00 on New Years Day. I think Jon Seestrom is having a little private party in the Ward Room that evening as well. Please keep your eyes open to the calendar on the website for upcoming events including the annual Boat Show Bus down to Seattle on January 30. Currently there is a Membership Drive promotion in effect and I would like to encourage our members to invite friends and family to consider joining our family. The price is pro-rated for the year and there is currently no initiation fee if you join right away. To all our volunteers, thanks so much for all you do! We have such a great club due to your efforts and dedication. Happy New Year!

This Week's Photo Contest

The subject of last week's picture, The Golden Horn, also known by its modern Turkish name as Haliç, is a major urban waterway and the primary inlet of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey. John Raasch, John Van Haalen, Meredith Ross, and Jim Gibson correctly identified the place.
