From our Commodore….
There’s no place like home…
I’ve just returned home from one of the conferences that my work puts on… which means 10 days in San Francisco working ‘below ground’ in the exhibit halls of the Moscone Center. Each time I fly into Bellingham and find myself gazing out the window to the local islands and our beloved Bay, I’m reminded of this special place that we call ‘home’.
Before I headed out, Neil and I were honored to be guests at the Anacortes Yacht Club Commodore Ball. Commodore Phil Case reached out to many of the local yacht club Commodores to bring us together and increase the camaraderie of our clubs. It was a delightful evening and a wonderful opportunity to meet folks that share a common love of these waters.
For those of you that went to the Boat Show, what was the coolest gadget you saw? What was the best deal you found? Share these with your fellow members! Winters is still here, but are you thinking of that summer cruise yet? Maybe you want to venture north, but you aren’t sure where to go? Our membership is a valuable resource – use it!! Just throw out a question in our weekly Jib sheet – or share a story.
Finally, I want to say a special ‘thank you’ to Vice Commodore, Troy Curran, for taking the helm of the January board meeting in my absence, and thanks to all the great volunteers that keep this Club rolling. In the words of Dorothy… there’s no place like home.
At your service,

Coming this Sunday: Super Bowl XLV between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers and annual chili cook-off. The Rules are: each entry must be named and is must appear ON or with the dish – do not use your name; you must provide a ladle, heat source or cord; you must provide enough chili to be tasted by all for trophy consideration; and if you have won in the past you must provide a substantially different chili. Everyone in attendance gets a vote; Chili Chairman has the final decision. Get creative with a new recipe or enter that old family favorite. Get your name on that silver ladle trophy!
Don’t forget to enter the football pool – now available at the bar, $5 a square. Winners at the end of each quarter get $100, final score winner $200. Bring an appetizer and join the fun!
The first annual winter cruise to Anacortes is just around the corner, February 19& 20. Join us by sea – slips have been reserved – or by land. We’ll be joining the members of the AYC at their clubhouse on Saturday – details are to be determined by cruise participants. So get your name on the list – contact Neil Bennett directly if you are interested at email@example.com or call at 206-919-0371.
The youth fleet is gearing up another active summer on the water. If you have any interest in helping with this program, we want to hear from you. All levels of interest are encouraged respond; let us help you get involved. Please contact me if you are interested at firstname.lastname@example.org or 360-720-4155.
Hope to see you all for game day at the club!
Facebook, Twitter, and the BYC
In late breaking news, Bellingham Yacht Club has announced its very own Facebook page.
Well okay, maybe that isn't breaking news. BYC has had the page up for almost a year now. Currently, we have 117 members on Facebook with about 30 people checking out the page every week.
Whenever a new article is posted to the BYC Web site's blogs, the BYC Facebook page is automatically updated.
What? You say you are not a member. Well---we should remedy that right away.
First, fire up your favorite browser and navigate to http://www.facebook.com/BellinghamYachtClub.
If you aren't already a member you will see a little box in the upper middle of the page that has a picture of a "thumbs up" that says "Like."
Go ahead and click it. That's it! Now you officially "Like" the Bellingham Yacht Club.
Write something on our wall: say "Hi" to your other Club members.
Share your photos on the BYC Facebook site.
On BYC's Facebook page we can share photos, videos, write comments, and create discussions. Do remember that these comments and photos are for the entire world to see, so please keep that in mind when posting. To post a photo, navigate your browser to http://www.facebook.com/BellinghamYachtClub and click the Photo Icon just to the right of the "Share:" bar. You should get a box that directs you to upload a photo. Click on that and click the "browse" button to select your photo. Pick something fun and write a comment. Now click share and you are done.
The BYC also has a twitter account: @bhamYC (www.twitter.com/byamyc).
