AN EDITORIAL MESSAGE…
Our elections each year bring both "new blood" and "seasoned talent" into our leadership group. Your vote is important to them and to our Club...and I think it's important to remember that it's the assortment of different talents and ideas and most important, the enthusiasm that these folks bring to the job that really counts!
The variety of our leaders' styles and interests bring new perspectives and more ideas for success; only the top officers need to be experts in our By-Laws or corporate governance. Our new trustees will learn as they get involved...
What really counts is our leaders' commitment to our Club, and their interest in doing their own job as well as possible. For examples, think of Bob Kehoe and cooking, or Mike Welsh and Dick Grimshaw and accounting, or Mark Santosuosso in our Building & House needs. (You can even count me as an example, doing the Roster and Jib Sheet for many years.)
If we each were to help the Club by doing only the one thing we can do well, imagine how we'd succeed!
Here's my point: Vote for those who want to do something and are good at it...and get active yourself! Just imagine how we'd be doing if everyone tackled just one task here at the BYC: We'd be soaring to great new heights!
Thank you, each and every one of you in our BYC. Every one of you makes a difference! Joe Coons
FRIDAY AT FIVE THIS WEEK

YOUR RESPONSE IS REALLY NEEDED!
Jody Erickson is making up Committee assignments and would really like everyone to submit the committees in which they are interested in participating!
All Past Commodores can get a sign up sheet at the Club (by mistake, they weren’t sent one).
There are also extra sign up sheets for anyone that may have misplaced theirs; they are on the shoreside end of the bar. There is a blue chart box on the bar to put them in when filled out. Jody will be checking it regularly.
The sign up sheet also has several new events on the back that folks may be interested in! Get those blue sheets in to Commodore Elect Jody so we can get our 2012-2013 Committees organized!
You can drop them off at the club or mail them in, or you can email your choices to email@example.com.
DECORATING COMMITTEE MEETING
There is going to be a Commodores Ball Decoration Committee Meeting, Tuesday Sept 25 at 6:30 at the club (after the Cook Book Committee Meeting). We need help! Come one come all! :)
DALE JEPSON ONE-DESIGN A HIT!
The 2012 Dale Jepsen One Design Regatta was a big success thanks to the volunteer efforts both on and off the water. The club came together to make this year's event one of the best in recent memory. Saturday racing was light and shifty, with sailors who could shift gears prevailing. The Saturday night party was epic, with a record setting keg killing (4 hours). Sailors from just about every club from Vancouver to Seattle were represented. We also had a large contingent of Bellingham folks fighting it out in FJs and Vanguard 15s.
Kyle Martin from RYVC
took home the over all for the 3rd year in a row. He was a heavy sailor who dominated in light air conditions.
Our sponsors, TD Curran, Samson Rope, West Marine and The Port Of Bellingham
did not disappoint, as we were able to offer camping , free launch privileges and fabulous prizes. If you were out helping this year, again I thank you very much.
We have a great event with an excellent reputation. It is becoming well loved because of the wonderful efforts of our volunteer club. Please put us on your calendar next year for the 2013 DJOD! (September 14 and 15). And, oh yeah.... There are still about 10 T shirts left.
Better get one before you can't. --- Mike Poulos, DJOD Chair
SAILING FLEET REPORT
Wednesday racing may be over, but BYC sailors are still getting their boats out for area races. Fall is an active time with several boats planning to head to Seattle at the end of the month and more looking nervously towards Round The County in november which year after year provides skippers the opportunity to test the strength of their gear and sails while crew members test their foul weather gear.
Dave Steffan and crew aboard Vitesse travelled to Pt Roberts Yacht Club's annual regatta last weekend and duked it out with a couple other Beneteau 36.7s finishing in the middle of a tough fleet.
This weekend is the ABC Challenge. BYC Boats and CYC boats will start in Bellingham bay and head south while boats from Anacortes will start in Fidalgo bay and head north. We will all converge on the finish line near Blakely island. Skippers meeting will be at 9am at gate three this Saturday the 22nd. Anyone interested drop me a message for more info. --- Bart Maupin, Sail Fleet Captain
