GREAT MANAGEMENT! Realizing that sitting on a lot of cash made no sense, our Club recently took fifty grand off the mortgage for way less interest, and reserved a credit line for $500/year! Great good sense, good job Board! This organization is in good hands... --- Editori
DON'T FORGET THE BARTENDERS!
For those of us that regularly charge bar tabs to our BYC account, it is easy to forget to pay our paid bartenders tips. We now have the capability to add a tip to your account. Simply ask the bartender to print out the tab for the night.
You can add a tip on the tip line and sign, just like you would do if paying with a credit card. Our Paid bartenders rely on tips as part of their income, so don't forget to reward them for good service! --- Mike Welsh
COOKBOOK CONTRIBUTOR REWARD! You can get a free copy of the historic BYC “Mates Favorites” cookbook by sending just six of your favorite recipes to the cookbook committee! They’re doing this because they need to have quite a few more recipes submitted in order to bring out the new edition economically. It’s easy to send in recipes with the online form at Members.BYC.Org. Here is a great flyer prepared by the Committee, or for full details, click here. --- Alex Marr
DO SOMETHING GREAT FOR YOUTH SAILING: They need stuff from your boat cache (or money), an easy way to clean out your boat locker and do some good for our program...and it's deductible. Here's the info. --- Jonathan Knowles, Fleet Captain
YOUTH SAILING BEGINS SOON:
Registrations for the summer classes are flowing in and some of the sessions are starting to fill up. Please let anyone you know who might be interested in sailing lessons to go online and get registered for the classes that best suit their summer schedule. Ten sessions starting 6/24-8/30. Registration available online at byc.org. --- Arne Ahlen
KEELBOAT SAILING LESSONS: There are still a few spots available for lessons on the Ranger 26
with Bob Hollingsworth
. These lessons are available to anyone in the community and all age groups. Some parents are signing up with their children. What a great way to introduce children to sailing to see if they have an interest in pursuing this great sport! We plan to expand this program through the rest of the summer depending on the interest shown. Click here

HELLO CRUISERS! 13 boats participated last weekend in the Round Lummi Island distance race
. The fleet divided early on with roughly half the boats choosing to go different directions around the Island. After dealing with challenging currents and flukey winds, Dave Steffan
and the crew of Vitesse
finished clearly in the lead. Congratulations!
BYC's own Ward Naviaux
and a crew of 3 others just completed the Astoria yacht clubs "Oregon Offshore" race from Astoria to Victoria. Finishing first in their division and 3 over all!!!
3 days is a long time to spend in a 27 foot boat. Thanks everyone for the participation and enthusiasm. --- Bart Maupin, Racing Fleet Captain
ABOUT THE OPEN HOUSE: A GREAT BIG, EFFUSIVE THANK YOU!
The BYC Open House was a SUCCESS
Beyond Expectation! It is the one time of the year when our Club is Open to the Public
--including the Bar. Information Booths about BYC's many different clubs, committees, and benefits were available to Members and Guests, there were Raffles for BYC Gear, Beer Tastings, 175 Hot Dogs grilled and served for lunch, Shrimp Scampi and Dancing to Jasmine Greene and her Band, and more!
A HUGE thank you to Marian Welsh and Marian Henderson
who are swamped with 29 new Member applications to process -- in addition to the 33 applications that they have received since April 1st! That's 62 new applications in four weeks requiring Rosters, Name Badges, Membership Cards, Files, etc. And thanks to Mike Welsh
for handling the dues processing and paperwork. Your overtime work (way beyond the call of duty) during the Membership Drive is much appreciated!
A special thanks to our super grill masters: Neil Bennett, Tim Mumford, and Terry Tavelli
, who made and served up the delicious hot and fresh Shrimp Scampi dinner. The Local Brews Beer Tasting was a huge success -- many thanks to Susan Henderson & Sandy Hanson
for pouring hundreds of beer tastings. Thanks to bartenders, Ryan and Levey
, for keeping up with all the Bar traffic. And we appreciate Sue Day & Katy Day
along with Jack & Linda Levine, Andy Brown and Rick Steidley
for all of their behind the scenes work. Thanks so much for volunteering!
Many thanks go out to the many BYC Members and Dead Pirates who volunteered their time to work the 12 hour event by manning booths, setting up, welcoming the many visitors, re-supplying and cleaning up after a great day! It took many volunteers and participants including Carrie Beck, John Stocklass, Arne Ahlen, Tom & Penny Dalgleish, John Gargett, Joe Coons, Heather Ouilette, Alex Marr, Michele Bodkte, Mick Corcoran, Jim Santosuosso, and Ginger Thompson to make this Open House so successful! Thank you all!
Finally, Kudos to co-chairs Gary Baker and Angie Santosuosso of the Open House Committee who did a fantastic job organizing the Annual Open House Event. They have worked on this event for months, and it paid off BIG! It was a FUN Day on the Water making New BYC Friends! --- Kathy Brown, BYC Programs Chair
FROM OUR COMMODORE...
Last week was a week of winding down and a week of completing details. Opening Day has come and gone and I feel everyone had a wonderful time. Let’s look forward to all of the sunny summer months to enjoy boating and our boating friends.
This week's Friday@5, bring “Breakfast for Dinner” from the Cookbook committee. Bring your favorite dish and don’t forget the recipe! The cookbook committee needs more recipes and we need those special ones that you are bringing for everyone to enjoy. It should be a good time so come on down!
We are in the process of adding all of our new members to our committees. If you are a new member and would like to join a particular committee, please contact me so I can point you in the right direction to become a committee member. It is a good way to get to know other BYC members and we always need the help. Volunteers are who makes our club.
Have a wonderful week and enjoy the friends, the water and the wind!
Fair Winds and Following Seas --- Jody King Erickson
STEVE ROSS'S PHOTO CONTEST...
Last week's picture was of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal in The Netherlands. Jim Gibson and Darlene Wagner both identified the type of waterway, but they were a continent off.
Jib Sheet Editor this week is Joe Coons.
