SPECIAL FRIDAY AT FIVE THIS WEEK!

I am going to be cooking up burgers for all members to enjoy!  This is done as a special appreciation for all of our Volunteers including the Dead Pirates, who do so much for our Club. Our Membership is what makes our club and without you we would not have a club!  Come on down and enjoy a burger with your friends*.  We will have burgers and the fixings! Here’s Steve’s Flyer…  This is my way of saying "Hats Off to our membership for all you do!”

Reminder:  I am trying to form Committees and I need those blue Committee Sign Up sheets!  Please turn yours in (jody.erickson77@yahoo.com); all Past Commodores can also submit one (by mistake, they weren’t sent a sheet). There are also extra sign up sheets for anyone that may have misplaced theirs; they are on the shoreside end of the bar. There is a blue chart box on the bar to put them in when filled out. I will be checking it regularly.      Hope to see all of you at the club! :)

*Bring your friends that could become Members!  To keep costs down and services flourishing, we need to keep adding members replacing those who are leaving town.  Think of your boating buddies and bring them this week! --- Incoming Commodore Jody Erickson

THIS WEDNESDAY: INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS

If you’ve never been to one of these ceremonies, come on down to the Club for a special and sentimental time.  Beginning at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, the BYC Blue Gavel/Past Commodores organization takes responsibility for swearing in our new officers and trustees.  PC Joe Coons, who has served as MC of the event for many years, always includes a brief history story in the presentations…and it’s also a time when our newest Past Commodore Troy Curran may present some special awards, and our incoming Commodore Jody Erickson, will tell you some of her plans for the year.

Of course, the bar is open, but primarily it’s a time to honor all these Members who give their time to make the Club work.  And we’re hoping that ALL the incoming officers and board, and also those that are carrying on in old jobs will be on hand as the torch is passed.  See you there!

(For those involved in the ceremonies, suggested dress is a blue jacket with grey slacks and white shirt if possible.  You can find hints about many BYC events in your Roster, section 1B, page 10.)

SAILING REPORT: RACE THIS WEEK!

Nine boats showed up for the Marmetta Cup this last weekend.  After a slow drift towards Eliza Island the wind filled in briefly but allowed the fleet to consolidate and enjoy a bit of a "re-start" before reaching off towards Chuckanut Bay.  Congratulations to Jack Gerity and the crew of Extreme for finishing first.  Because of the staggered start, if you were out there, you know how you finished, it made for a lot of fun!

This weekend will be the Annual race around Jack Island, it is sounding like there will be quite a few boats on the scene.  Get your crews together and come join us!  Skippers Meeting will be at Gate 3 at 9AM.  --- Bart Maupin, Sail Fleet Captain

PLEASE WELCOME OUR NEWEST MEMBERS!

Jacob Whitish, a new intermediate member, lives in Bellingham and sails a US Yachts 25 named Wild Turkey II. He is sponsored by Ray Poorman and Jose Bartlett.

Christine Palmerton and Chris Larsen also live in Bellingham and pilot Sea Cup, a 26' Bayliner. Christine is a returning active member and is sponsored by Jody Erickson and Judy Mickel-Griffin.

Please look for them at the club, give 'em a welcome, and offer to buy them a drink and invite them to join you on your favorite BYC committee!

DUES ARE DUE!

OCTOBERFEST OCTOBER 12TH!

Oompah! Oompah!  Can't you hear the tubas?

The Cookbook project is joining with the Marketing Steering group to sponsor the "between Fridays" OctoberFest party on October 12, just two weeks away at 6PM. We encourage all members to bring a recipe item either on dish or on paper or preferably both. If you are bringing a dish, you can enter the recipe online (see link below) or on paper. Our focus for this event is on a main dish but other recipes will also be thankfully accepted. Paper recipes will be displayed with the dish. If you are not bringing a dish, you can support us by just contributing a recipe!!!

Lederhosen, dirndls, your favorite biersteins, vests, and Oktoberfester's hats---now is the time to show them off at the BYC Oktoberfest!  There will be Bratwursts on the grill, sauerkraut, strudel,  and other Oktoberfest delights.  Contact: Heather Ouilette at  heather.ouilette@gmail.com or Angie Santosuosso at thetolsmas@yahoo.com  or Donna Olsen at olsenrk@comcast.net for more info...

AND, THE COOKBOOK PROJECT HAS GOTTEN EASIER!

We have a whole new…and easy…process to get your recipes into the book.  (We still need more recipes to get this published.)

To make recipe submission easier, contributors can now submit recipes by typing it online. The website to type recipes is typensave.com.

1. Access website at typensave.com;
2. Click the Login box to open the Login page;
3. Enter Username byccookbook and Password seasalt550.  Then click the Submit button;
4. A "Message from your chairperson" box will appear. Enter your name and click Submit again;
5. Several selection boxes will appear - click the box Add Recipes to open a recipe input form;
6. Type all data on the recipe form (left side of page);
7. Click the blue Recipe Preview box (you must preview before the recipe can be saved);
8. Verify that all information is correct on the Recipe Preview page;
9. Use the purple Spell Check button for correction as required;
10. Click the green Save Recipe button to complete your input;

Voila! You're done with this recipe!  There is a logout button on top of page to exit the website at end of each input session.

Of course, we will continue to accept recipes submitted on paper, however online submission will save re-typing and make our job easier, and more accurate.
