It certainly seems like our members are getting out and enjoying this beautiful summer weather and that is terrific!  I'm sorry we missed the Buccaneer's Cruise this year... we were entertaining Neil's 87 yr old Mom for the weekend and required activities closer to home.

August 2-8, 2016

TUES2 August:  Bar and lounge open at 5; WED:  3 August: Bar and lounge open at 5 - Burgers!; THURS: 4 August: Bar and lounge open at 5 - Monica's Mexican;  FRI: 5 August: Fridays at 5.

Vacation last week to Yakima to see my grand kids, fun but HOT! Update: My daughter-in-law is pregnant and due to have my fourth grandchild in October (a girl).

Update of highlights from the last Board meeting: Inati Bay lease is secure. Building locks and keys will soon be changed. The original locks were supplied with 10 keys of which 6 are unaccounted for. This requires the change to beef up security of our facility. We approved three new members: Cynthia Mitchell, Regan Haines, and Peter Dylan. There were some building rot issues discussed and two contractors were approved to address the problems. The Bar & Lounge Committee says that the beer taps will be moved soon to allow kids to sit in the lounge area.

A big thank you to Rick Laursen and his committee for getting the Buccaneers Cruise going. For smashing it all together quickly it turned out very well and I think every one had a great time. Even the weather cooperated, mostly. Friday night was a bit windy and it blew right into the bay. Meo Geo at the North end of Lummi busted her anchor line and drifted onto the beach. I haven't heard how Tim Mumford's boat made out when the tide came in on Saturday. I hope there was no damage.

This summer is flying by. I hope everyone is enjoying it.

Hosted by YOU!

Come on down Friday night to share fishing stories, crabbing tales, and what shore you're headed to next...  It's a Fridays @ 5 and YOU'RE the host!  Bring an appetizer to share and enjoy the sunshine on the deck with a libation or two!

The Buccaneers Cruise was well attended and by all indications a rousing good time was had by all! We’re still kind of putting things back in order at the club, but otherwise all is back to normal! Stay tuned for the Sucia Island Luau coming up next!

Here’s this weeks’ schedule of events:

TUE: Bar and lounge open at 5!

WED: Burgers hot off the grill!

THUR: Monica’s Mexican, with the best carne asada north of the border and those tasty bean burritos!

FRI: It’s Fri @ 5 time again! Come on down and bring those appetizers and sides to share!

See you in the lounge!

PacRim 2016 is officially underway! Team Bellingham met up at Sunday evening's opening ceremonies. Nakhodka greeted the guests in grand style with a wonderful folk music concert. Racing begins on Tuesday. Pictured is the Bellingham race team with boat owner, Sergei, after a day of practice on Monday just prior to retiring for after-race libations! Vodka anyone?

Well despite six boats having a rather crazy range of mechanical problems, this year's Buccaneers cruise was a big hit with 32 boats and easily 100 people in attendance! Movie night, costume contests, and lots of food came off smoothly as the temps stayed nice and pleasant for a great weekend filled with neon bright phosphorescence on Friday and Saturday night, all sorts of new folks, first-timers, and our own floating island rafted up as part of the floatilla. A very huge thanks goes out to Steve Hayward and Monica for their endless amount of food prep and overseeing of the operation!! Chad and Bob Huntley with Specialized Marine Transport were a huge help as well! Not only did they give us a great rate but helped extensively with the onload and offloads!

A huge sincere thank you goes out to the many many folks that helped put this on!! Dwayne Rogge for the adults "best poker hand" treasure hunt; Valerie Wright, Lindsey Keifer, and Nicole Jordan for making the younger kids and teenage treasure hunts a big succesful hit; Mark Santosuosso for getting the great band "Sweet Invictus" literally at the last minute; Katy, Brian and Sheri Vanculen for their help with plenty of stuff; Tom Day for helping out when the shuttle boat died; Duane and Lisa Jones, Tom Childs for being chef extraordinaire again; Dave and Missy Steffen for their help cooking; Randy Nulle for driving the shuttle boat again this year; Chris Jacobs for meeting the landing craft with Randy and moving a small mountain of stuff back into the club Sunday evening; the crew of the Teena Marie for taking a lot of the trash home; and EVERYONE who helped even in the smallest of ways!! Much fun was had by all thanks to the efforts! Shaun Thompson will be running Buccaneers Cruise 2017 so put it on your calendars now and tell your friends!!

It was a fisherman's delight in Desolation Sound last week!  RC Jim Gibson was on the lookout for BYC members in and around the Pender Harbor, Lund, and Otter Island areas, but found many happy members from other clubs instead.
If you are planning a trip to these waters in the near future, Jim is available to fill you in on hot fishing spots, suggested coves, and related information like navigational hazards.

It’s that time of the year when we start gearing up for our annual Labor Day PITCH regatta.
