The event is sponsored by Miike Poulos, Jon Knowles, Karen/ Al Callery and Terry Tavelli.

Come down with your friends and make some friends.  Have a steak and some shrimp on us. Learn a little about the 2012 Pacific Rim Challenge in Port Stephens Australia.

Not much new to report from the Bridge this week, but I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful holiday weekend, and I’d like to extend a personal thank you to those members that have served our country (or are currently serving).  Memorial Day isn’t just about BBQs and days off...  so take a moment and thank a vet.  They deserve it!

A few of us (PC Ray Poorman, PC Terry Tavelli, Fleet Captain Michele Bodtke, my husband, Neil and I) all met up in Victoria, BC for the annual Swiftsure Race.  We were crewing on out-of-town member Dave MacLean’s J/109, Illusionist.  Dave registered under the CYC Seattle flag, but once he realized he was severely outnumbered by BYC ‘brass’, he succumbed and flew the BYC burgee proudly.  I’m happy to report that we placed 4th in our division after a very hard-fought 28 hours on the racecourse that included one rather hard ‘grounding’.  Thank you Skipper!

Now it’s time for a little R&R.  I’m sorry that I’ll miss the PacRim sponsored Fridays at 5 this week, but encourage you to come on down to the Club to hear their stories and get involved.  The helm goes to PC Pete Foti and VC Troy Curran for the next few days.  I’ll be back at your service later next week.
Till then,
Commodore Michele

Thursday’s wine tasting was a successful event.  In spite of the busy holiday weekend close to 20 people showed up for an informative sit-down with Laurent Martel and we learned why the eight wines featured deserved special attention.  Special thanks to Mary Jorgensen for appetizers and Joe Bartlett, Jim Langei and John Van Haalen for alternating at the bar, without these tireless volunteers we wouldn’t be able to have these fun events.  The four new wines chosen to be sold by the bottle at the bar were Cono Sur Chardonnay, Colume Estate Malbec, Seghesio Zinfandel, and Marietta Petit Sirah. Look for them in the bar if you want to see what you missed.   In discussions with people attending, it was decided that the next tasting should be in October.   --- Donald Jorgensen

We all know the website is a big job, and that there is always room for improvement on this (all volunteer!) project. To make the workload a bit more manageable, we now have a web committee: Chair Sally Poorman, Terry Tavelli, Michele Bodtke and Susan Henderson. We'll be working together to improve and enhance what we already have, as well as encourage our interested membership to contribute more content to the site.
What we need from you:
• The photos you'd like to see online. We have re-started the photo area of the site, with photos of social events under the same password protection as the online membership roster. We'll also be adding regatta and Wednesday night racing photos that will be non-password protected. You can check out the new photo section at . If you need a roster/photo password, email Sally at
• We're starting a member vessels portion of the site. If you'd like to be included, please email a photo of your boat, along with boat info, and we'll add it. We'd also like feedback  as to whether our membership would prefer this section also to be password protected.
• More volunteers! if you want to volunteer to be a part of the web committee, please email Sally at (or webmaster@byc.orgwith your contact info so that we can let you know when our next meeting is. You do not need super-tech skills to be a part of this, we can use your help in adding content, writing content, and so forth. If you're interested at all, please consider it!
A last little shout-out thank you to Joe Bartlett for sending in many wonderful photos of Opening Day 2011, which are now online.  --- Sally Poorman
