New Year's Eve: Last Chance to Sign Up!

A great event started several years ago when Club Volunteer Chef Bob Kehoe started offering steak dinners and a casual New Year's Eve Party. You can see the details
here

You must sign up in advance. Stop by the BYC and sign up no later than Wednesday, December 29 and pay at the bar.

Saving the Lasers...

A big Commodore THANK YOU to members, Jim Langei, Tim Mumford, PC Terry Tavelli, Fleet Captain Michele Bodtke, and Vice Commodore Troy Curran for saving our laser fleet on Christmas Eve.  Jim noticed the high tides had the potential to crush the lasers stored under the BYC deck and put out the ‘all hands’ call.  A special thanks to those members that answered the plea!!   --- Commodore Michele Bennett

The Commodore's Column...

The year 2010 is coming to a close – did you accomplish all you hoped?  Are you already building your ‘to do’ list for 2011?  I know it’s been a busy and successful year here at the BYC and we have much on our list for the year ahead.  If you don’t already have plans for New Year’s Eve, I encourage you to come on down to the Club and ring in the New Year [see above].  You just have just over a day left to pre-order your Chef Kehoe steak dinner by signing up and paying at the bar Tuesday or Wednesday night!

I wish everyone a safe and happy New Year’s celebration...

At your service,
Commodore Michele

The Boat Show Bus Trip Deadline is Coming!

It’s time to get your Boat Show Bus reservations in: Great Fun!  The date is Saturday, January 22 leaving at 8:30 a.m. sharp from the club, and the return leaves the show at 5:30.   The cost is $45 per person and includes both  the in-the-water and inside shows (you can do both or either, as long as you like during the day). Food and drink is provided both on the way down and the way back, and the big, luxurious bus eliminates the parking and driving hassle, and if the weather’s bad, the driver deals with it.  Besides, you can have fun meeting new BYC friends!

You must sign up and pay at the bar!  For questions, Jody Erickson, Rear Commodore, can be contacted at jodbreezin@gmail.com and her phone is (360) 223-2119.  Matt Dennis is co-chair. Remember, you must be added to the list and pay at the barSpecial thanks to San Juan Sailing for sponsoring the show tickets!

There Will Be a January 7 Friday at Five...

PC Steve Moore has created the January 7 flyer.  See it here.

Interested in a BYC Investment Club?

Member Alex Marr is inviting Members to a meeting to explore the idea of a BYC Investment Club.  The meeting is planned forJanuary 11, 2011 (Tuesday) at 6:00 PM in the Commodores Room of the Lounge. All interested members are invited to attend this meeting.

"With many of our members in retirement or near retirement, learning about investing and possible financial benefit from participation in a shared portfolio may be of great interest. Social interaction with like-minded members will also add an important and enjoyable dimension to the club experience.  Other investment clubs across the country have found that new investors will discover a secure and supportive environment to learn the basics of investing, while experienced investors will gain an opportunity to sharpen investing skills.  This initial organizing meeting will assess the level of interest among members and discuss outlines of a general partnership which is necessary to facilitate club activities and pooling of financial resources," says Alex.  Contact him at 360-856-2553, marra@asme.org.

Another Terrific Phone App!

A great boater's smart phone App has been reported to us by Member Steve Johnson.  Released by Navionics, the app provides marine charts on your Droid or Apple iPhone.  The iPhone version is offered on the itunes site (and may be on your phone's app store, too), search apps for "Navionics".  The Droid version can be found on your on-phone app store.  Steve says that both B.C. and U.S. waters are available...I think he said it cost $9.99 for his Droid, but not sure.  This sounds great as a backup system for any boater!
