MEMBER NEWS
Let's celebrate Oktoberfest! Friday, 10 October. Mark your calendars.
Dust off the lederhosen, shake out the dirndls, dig out Great-Aunt Gisela's cookbook, and plan to join in the fun! Watch for further details...

COMMODORE'S BALL - 25 OCTOBER!  89th Annual Commodores Ball will be a Celebration of Naval & Maritime History.  The theme will be "Master & Commander". A novel by Patrick O'Brian set in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars and centered on the friendship of English naval captain Jack Aubrey and the Irish–Catalan physician Stephen Maturin. Although Master & Commander time period is early 19th century, I encourage a celebration of all naval or maritime history from the 1800's to present day.
Detailed information & formal invitations will be coming soon.

FROM OUR BAR MANAGER
Regatta season is over and while we’re breathing that sigh of relief, don’t forget there are still things happening at your club. Here’s the rundown for this week:
Monday Night Football continues, with Monica’s special hot dogs and carnitas (small pork-stuffed tortillas – yum!) to snack on while you watch the game. Game time 5:30.
Wednesday Burgers 'N' Bratsare suspended for this week, as we host a celebration of life for our lovely and so very much missed friend, Veronica Vernon. Drop by anytime after 5, have one of Veronica’s favorite margaritas, pick up a snack from Jalapeños, and share remembrances and stories.
Thursday is Carne Asada Nite, again as usual featuring Monica’s carne asada, bean burritos and that nearly famous roasted salsa you all love!
Friday the club is open as usual, so stop by and visit with friends as you unwind after a tough week at work and get started on the weekend!
Saturday the club opens at 5. Don’t forget the grill is always available. Bring something in and make an evening of it!
See you in the lounge!  --- Steve Hayward

SAILING NEWS:
WEEKEND RACING: The excitement is building for the annual Marmetta cup this weekend. It is looking like the sun will return for the weekend.   Let me know if your planning on racing so we can figure the start times accordingly. Start times will be assigned based on PHRF rating with slower boats starting first. This kind of start makes for an exciting finish as everyone  converges on the finish in the order of the results.
Sailing Instructions have been put up on the racing page of the website. We look forward to seeing everyone there! --- Bart Maupin, Sail Fleet Captain

CRUISING NEWS:
NEXT TRIP: Hosting Sailors for the Round the County Race!
OUR COMMODORE'S COLUMN:
As the end of another year approaches I find myself reflecting on the past year. It almost seems unreal that there are only eights days until we install a new commodore, bridge and trustees. Now more than ever, with all the great strides we have made this year, it's important to support the leadership of the club and for you to become an active participant in the BYC. As my mother used to say to me, you only get out of something what you put into it.
Fall is in the air - enjoy the change of season. Hope to see you at the club soon. Serving you from the Helm, Michele Bodtke, Commodore commodore@byc.org (360) 720-4155

STEVE ROSS'S PHOTO CONTEST:
Last week's picture was of Cleveland House, in Bath, U.K., which is the headquarters of the Kennet and Avon Canal. The house straddles the canal. Mark Harding, John Van Haalen, John Raasch, & Jim Gibson correctly identified the scene, while Gayle Ackerly was close.
This week, we see a busy harbor. If you know the location, send your answer to drsteveross@gmail.com.
