A big thanks to the members that came down for the General Membership meeting and Town Hall Meeting.  As Commodore wrote, we were just shy of having the necessary 25 active votes needed for a By-Law amendment, but the ensuing Town Hall Meeting had some great discussion.
And so I wish you all a most Merry Christmas!

Big Picture No 11.

Please help the BYC help those whose fortunes are not as bright as ours. This year’s Sink the Dinghy recipient, Engedi Refuge, is a very worthwhile Whatcom County community effort helping the victims of sex trafficking to improve their lives. Last Friday, the membership raised another $340.00 in a record 10 minutes. It must have been PC Michele in her Santa hat!
The Wednesday General Membership and Town Hall meeting was a mixed bag: we didn't have enough members to meet the Bylaw's standard for a quorum, so the Adhoc Bar and Lounge Advisory Committee will have to remain just that until we can have another meeting, sometime in the Spring..with food...and maybe a bar special to boot.  The Town Hall meeting was lively with many members participating-thank you all!
The Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Thursday, December 15, 2016 to extend an offer of a Facilities Manager position to current Bar Manager, Steve Hayward.  Steve will assume this role in January 2017, with a goal of increasing club rental revenue and more effective year-round room scheduling for members and general public alike. We recently had an issue that involved a club member using the Windows on the Bay dining room for their private member event, without properly scheduling this use. This could have caused a significant negative impact on our tenant. One of the most important of Steve’s tasks will be to ensure that all rentals are conducted within the terms of our rental agreements and contracts.
Many thanks are due to Trustee Shaun Thompson and crew for sponsoring a great Brisket Friday’s at Five event.  His approach of recruiting family and friends to help looked like a lot of fun.  Just think how popular Friday’s at Five could become if we all took a turn!?  Contact Shaun or me for more information on how to get involved.
Another way to become involved is to volunteer to organize and coordinate the Boat Show Bus!  Talk to Shaun or me about this fabulous opportunity.
As we begin to wind down the year of 2016, please keep in mind that this is a Season of Good Cheer. More importantly, it is also a Season of Celebrating Peace among Men and Women of Good Will; I will strive to keep this at the top of my list.
Cast no Wake Upon our Burgee.

Voted in at last week's board meeting was Randy Hill and Linda Robinson.  They are active members from Bellingham and are currently in the market for a sail boat.  Please extend them a warm BYC welcome when you see them!
Dear BYC members:
Advertising your company or business through the Bellingham Yacht Club gains you direct marketing access to enthusiastic boaters and boat owners in Bellingham, Whatcom County and beyond. Over 30 BYC members currently advertise with the BYC and its various forms of community interaction. In addition to supporting the club that hosts club and community events such as Opening Day on Bellingham Bay, Lighted Boat Parade, Junior Ski To Sea, and major local sailboat racing regattas... your advertisement will help the BYC mission, “to foster recreational boating activities in Bellingham and vicinity”. You will also help support BYC community events such as Whatcom Community High School Sailing, Bellingham Sailing Foundation, ‘Sink the Dinghy’ community support fundraising, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Local Bellingham Power Squadron and the Sea Scouts.
Advertising with the Bellingham Yacht Club in 2017 includes:
  • A one third page advertisement in the BYC Yearbook and membership roster and on the BYC website. With either of these you can choose to include a brief caption with your member bio or business information.
  •  Listing in the BYC Jib Sheet, mailed weekly to the entire membership with a hyperlink to your company’s website. The Jib Sheet reaches over 375 members, 52 weeks per year, which is over 19,500 emails per year.
  •  Publish up to 4 special offers/events about your business in the BYC Jib Sheet newsletter and up to 4 special offers/events about your business on the BYC Facebook page.
This tremendous advertising program is extended from the 2015 rates of $150 inclusive of all of the above benefits. This is an extraordinary value to both you and the BYC membership.
Please contact Commodore Neil at if you’re interested. Please include business card graphics and a short 1 to 2 sentence member bio. The deadline for this production is January 15, 2017. If you have any questions email me at
Thank you from me and the entire BYC membership for your support of your club.
