YOUTH FLEET NEWS
This Saturday, 3/28, the BYC youth fleet will be running a booth at the B'ham Family Festival in the Sportsplex. If you can spare an hour or two to work the booth handing out leaflets contact me at mike@mikepowellphoto.com

April 24 will be our BSF Youth Fleet silent auction. If you would like to help us run another successful auction and can cook, clean, collect auction items, or run the till please contact me. We raised over $7000 last year, it went to repair an RIB. Our learn to sail fees only cover the cost of staffing, so all repairs and replacements must be covered by fund raising. The auction is our best opportunity to raise the funds and give our members a great deal on items from local businesses; if you are connected with a business that might have a product or service that could be sold, please let me know. Thank you.
My address is above. Mike Powell

MEMBER NEWS
Flotilla 11, USCG Auxiliary is offering the one day About Boating Safely classes, on the Second Saturday of April and May in Bellingham. Classes are from 8 am to 4:30 pm.  Completion of the 8 hour class meets the WA State Boaters' Education Card requirements for an approved class. This 8 hour class is a good basic review of best practices for safe recreational boating. Children 10 through 14 are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Teens 15 and older may attend unaccompanied. Remember a Boater Education Card is now required for all persons, born after 1955, operating a motorized vessel with 15 hp or more. This lifetime card (Purchased from the state for $10) requires completion of an approved Boating Safety class.
More information is available at
www.BLIAUX.com or by contacting (360) 739-1310. Click here for the flyer and the registration form.

FREE VESSEL SAFETY CHECK !  Is your boat in compliance with the U.S. Coast Guard?  Bellingham Sail & Power Squadron offers a free Coast Guard approved vessel safety check.  Send request/inquires to Merle @ VSC@boatingisfun.org

Pink Boat Regatta is looking for a few great volunteers to help organize and run the 2015 regatta in September.  This is a great way to assist in a great cause with really fun people.  Contact Neil Bennett or Jim Gibson.

The Lake Whatcom MC Scow fleet needs someone to run race committee on Tuesdays. With 10 MC Scows racing on Tuesdays and a starting gun at 6, the take-off point is about half way along the North Shore, a mile before Agate Bay. The lovely varnished committee boat has wheel steering with an outboard, comfortable and elegant. Starting races is easy, press the button on the automatic starting box and the rest takes care of itself. The skippers are courteous and polite. A separate mark boat with an experienced operator sets marks, so the race committee  job is start races and record finishes. Guests can be invited out on the race committee boat by the volunteer. (Skippers take turns filling in for the Race Committee when other commitments interfere.) No races are started after 7:45. Typically we race 3 or 4 races if the winds hold up. It's a fun way to enjoy afternoons/evenings on the lake. Contact fellow club member Will Lesh at 360-966-7245.

COMMODORE'S COLUMN
BYC Wednesday Night Club Racing starts up on April 8th.   The club needs all of its members, Cruisers and Racers alike, to support this racing program.   The race packet is a flat $50 for all series and long distance racing.   The fees collected just barely covers ½ the cost of running the program for fuel, insurance, maintenance and awards.   Remember to thank the BYC’s regatta chairs and sponsors who make up these costs and keep the program affordable.   So, sign up for a race packet today!!  Even if you only make it out a few evenings, it’s worth it and it’s FUN!
Don't forget the Opening Day Theme, “Animal House” on May 2nd.  You better be working on you boat decorations!!
 Cheers!  Commodore Jon
