THIS FRIDAY, A FRIDAY AT FIVE…

It’s the evening before the Commodores Ball, so this is just a casual Friday at Five, so just come on down to your Club, bring in appetizers you can and have fun!  Commodore Jody is bringing a big salad…Let’s call it a “Casserole/Crock Pot Night” or even just bring some basics like chips, nuts, or bread & Butter

COMMODORE’S COLUMN…

Well, our members have done it again!  Judy Griffin, Christine Palmerton and Chris Larson did a Spooktacular job on the Halloween Party!  The club looked so good!  I had not seen a Halloween party like in years.  It was well attended and everyone had a grand time!  There were great gifts for those that won the Costume Contests (provided by Christine Palmerton and the Nauti girl/Nauti Boy shop)!  It was well organized with Kids games and the works.  Thanks so much for such a fun night!

We have a big week coming up!  Monday night is Taco night, and the worker bee sessions for the Sold Out Commodores Ball….ohhhh! That is right around the corner, Saturday night!

The Commodores Ball Committee will be working hard to get things organized and complete for the Ball...on Saturday! Looking forward to seeing all of you at the Ball…Hootie Hoot!

Fair winds, I’m at your service!  --- Jody King Erickson

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!

Permission to Come Aboard was granted to these new members at the recent BYC Board Meeting:

  • Former members Mollie Koblein & Bob Christin are joining us as non-residents, spending most of the year in Arizona. They own a 20' SeaSwirl and are sponsored by Matt & Brenda Dennis and David & Katti Esp.
  • Brand new non-resident members living in Helena, Montana are Ken Ford & Heather Grahame. They sail the San Juan 24 Geschwind and are sponsored by Jim Gibson and Jonathan Knowles.
  • New non-resident member Barb Cross splits her time between Bellingham and Sarasota. She is sponsored by Jody Erickson and Angie Santosuosso.
  • Our newest intermediate members, Ali Angle & Elliot Newman, live in Bellingham and may sometimes be seen haunting Jim & Angie Santosuosso's Straight Jacket. Jim & Angie along with Ginger Thompson are their sponsors.
  • Also joining us as an intermediate member is our own barkeep Levey Mamaril. You should have seen her at the recent club scrub - the bar area now sparkles! She is sponsored by Jody Erickson and Susan Henderson.

Please make them feel welcome!  And, whenever you come into the club, make it a habit to wear your name badge and look for unfamiliar faces. Go up and introduce yourself! Whether it turns out to be a new member, an out-of-town member, someone who doesn't make it to the club often, or just someone whose path you don't often cross, it can make a big difference.

NEXT MONDAY, SAIL FLEET MEETS…

Greetings everyone,

Since it's looking like the Mayans may have been wrong with their predictions, we are going to have a Sailfleet meeting November 5th at 6:00PM downstairs at the club to discuss the 2013 sailing season that will be upon us soon.

Items we need to discuss are the upcoming awards banquet (November 17th), budgets, elections and duties, PRO training and education opportunities for this winter.  The meeting will coincide with Monday Night Football at the club so there will be food and the bar will be open.

I hope everyone can make it.  If you have other obligations please email or call me with any questions or concerns.  Thanks, Bart Maupin.

YOU’RE INVITED ONTO OUR MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE!

Next Monday, November 5th, from 5-6:30pm we are having our 1st Membership Committee Team meeting in the Commodores Room at the Club.  What is this committee all about???  We work together to recruit new members and introduce them to our BYC; we also collaborate with other committees to promote member retention.

What will you gain from being a part of this great team?  1. Pleasure of meeting new members and consequently making new friends!  2. Pride for helping to grow our membership at BYC!  3. Planning how we will improve things at BYC to make new members feel truly welcomed and integrated into the programs and activities of the club!  4. FUN and SOCIALIZING with your fellow team members!

Please join me and the rest of us for this meeting.  Appetizers will be provided.  The bar will be open and there will be a Monday Night Football game going on in the lounge, so grab a drink and come on over to the Commodores room.  The fireplace will be on!!  --- Angie Santosuosso, Chair

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL EVERY WEEK DURING THE SEASON!

Don't forget it’s also Taco Mondays!  Three Tacos and a Tasty Beverage Special for $6.50 or $1 tacos!

And if you didn't think all of the above was enough fun- There's a chance to win $25 on the Football Squares Game board. Look for the game board to be at the club All week long to sign up for a square (or several) and enter to win!

If you have any questions contact Matt & Heather Ouilette and Eric Nyberg

IMPORTANT STATE LEGISLATION OPPORTUNITY

Boaters in Washington have an important opportunity right now to ask the Governor in her budget proposal to the Legislature to fix the diversion of $3.3M from the Recreation Resource Account (RRA) in 2012. You will recall that the RRA is the unrefunded tax that boaters pay on gas used in their boats. The RRA raises about $8-9M per biennium and goes to build and maintain boating infrastructure such as launch ramps, docks, parking, rest rooms, mooring buoys, etc. through the Boating Facilities Program. Last session the Legislature diverted $3.3M of the RRA to pay other bills. Please write the Governor today to ask her to replace the diversion in her next budget.

Thank you for your support of boating programs.  ---  From RBAW

THIS WEEK’S LINK:

In case you’ve been thinking of a megayacht, you might like to see this link showing the boat that was designed by Apple’s Steve Jobs before his death and was recently completed. Clearly, although he had a great idea of how to design personal phones, computers, and tablets, he perhaps was not a trendsetter when it comes to Marine architecture!

THIS WEEK’S PHOTO QUIZ FROM STEVE ROSS:

The photo contest is back after a short break. The most recent winner was Jim Gibson who correctly identified King John's Castle in Limerick, Ireland, and shared the following:
Up the Shannon I do sail -
'Till the bridge at King John's I fail -
To advance on the river -
And I stop and shiver -
At the castle at Limerick's vale.   ---
D. Kenneth Ford

This week's photo is of more modest dwellings. If you know the location (or even if you don't but want to take a guess), send your answer to drsteveross@gmail.com.

Remember to submit your articles to  Jibsheet@byc.org  Deadline is each Monday noon.
