DECEMBER 18-24, 2012....

THIS WEEK...check listings on left, too!

WINTER SOLSTICE FRIDAY AT FIVE!  Commodore Jody says: "This week’s Friday at Five kicks off the new Ships Store inventory.  We are getting more items weekly..for you to see: we're starting off with Hoodies for men and women, scarfs, beanies, and an assortment of T shirts for men and lovely fitted T’s for women.  Judy Mickel Griffin and Jody are sponsoring this Friday at 5 serving up some Chili dogs, and who knows what all.  Come on down and get those stocking stuffers!  It is bound to be a fun time!"
Also on the schedule for this week is Sunday Football at 4:30 at the Club….This will be another Membership mixer so bring your friends and come on down and watch the game!  We will be serving up some grub for all those hungry Football fans; we may even have a special drink!

OUR MEMBERSHIP DRIVE CONTINUES!  Through month-end, the Board is waiving the usual initiation fee of $200 for active resident memberships! Please promote this rare opportunity for a boating friend; and if you identify a candidate soon, bring them any BYC event.  The club is decorated in its finest holiday décor (including s great tree courtesy of Commodore Jody). Please promote this during the holidays (give a BYC Membership for Christmas?)  Help us grow our BYC family! --- Angie Santosuosso, Membership Chair
WARM WEDNESDAY SNUGGLING!  Remember snuggling?  Tried it lately? Here's what it's like this Wednesday at your BYC lounge...

NEXT WEEK...check listings on left, too!

NEW YEAR'S EVE --- as of our deadline --- is not planned as yet; sorry we're late this year!  BUT --- if it is scheduled between now and then, you can expect a blast from Steve Moore. (You never know...)
FRIDAY AT FIVE ON THE 28th details are open, but for sure we'll be at the Club...drop by!
LAST FRIDAY AT FIVE WAS SUPER!    THANKS to the many helpers, assembling and contributing to the huge Smorgasbord. Everything was delicious from Veronica Vernon's Chicken Mole to Margaret Marr's eggrolls to the Swedish meatballs (thanks Laura and Jeff Vaughan) to Maya Allsop and Donna Olsen's cakes to the many other contributors  who made it a success. I can't mention all who assembled the trays, sliced and diced, and prepped. It made it very traditional Jul celebration...
A special thanks to Margaret Marr, Trudy & Wayne Kelsoe, and Jim Santosuosso for cleaning & washing up! Note: there were no leftovers! Also, the White Elephant Exchange was vigorous and competitive; I think we have a new BYC tradition! We even had Elf-himself in attendance! (Bob Simica -- loved the shoes!)  And the icing on the cake is that we had several more new Members to join the BYC Family!  Yay! We did have a great time!  Uff-Ta! Wishing you a Good Jul! --- Kathy Brown, Programs
Here is the Flyer for this big annual event.  If you've never gone with a BYC gang to the Seattle Boat Show, this is a treat!  Sign up at the bar ASAP...
A NEW CLUB EVENT!  Remember "Supper Clubs", those places where you could go for great music, and good conversation in a nice social setting?  Well, "The BYC Jazz Supper Club" is the title for an event planned for January 27, Sunday evening (that's the day after the Boat Show Bus.) Around 6:00 p.m. we expect the Gail Pettis Quartet playing easy-swinging tunes from "The Great American Songbook". In both our comfortable lounges we will be serving munchies with your cocktails from the no-host bar, and Sunday supper with a nice steak, a salad, and fries (or fish and chips if you prefer), while you and your guests enjoy the music. (For a comfortable listening/soft conversation experience, drinks must be taken to your table.) There may be commentary from Jud Sherwood, impresario of The Jazz Project" here in Bellingham, and, among others, the group is likely to play our own Matt Dennis dad's great tune, Angel Eyes!  The players are Gail Pettis, vocals; backed by Jeff Johnson, Jud Sherwood, and Darin Clendenin.  The cost is $32/person including music, supper, tax and tip --- such  a deal!  This exclusive offer is limited to 75 persons, so get your tickets early.  Make reservations with Joe Coons at 739-1528 or; he has more info.
WE NEED OUR BOWLS BACK!  If you took one of the low round bowls of flowers after the Commodore's Ball, could you return the bowl to the Club?  Thanks!

Another great week!  Friday night was our Holiday Party at the BYC and many folks turned up for the occasion.  Kathy Brown and her team served up some delicious food and the gift exchange was a fun time for all.
The Bus to the Boat show is right around the corner and the signup sheet is on the counter at the club.  If you sign up be sure to pay the Bartender.  It is $45.00 per person once again and it will be amazing again this year.  This year’s Bus is going in honor of my bro Jim Langei; he never missed a Boat Show.
This week’s Friday at Five kicks off the Ships Store items.  We want to see you there (story above) .  Also on the schedule is Sunday Football at the Club. This is a Membership mixer so bring your friends and come on down and watch the game!  We will be serving up some grub for all those hungry Football fans; we may even have a special drink!
As always there is a lot going on at the Club, so take a break from your Holiday shopping and come to the Club for Football on Sunday!
Fair Winds and Happy Holidays --- Jody King Erickson

Before we know it the 2013 raciing season will be here!  We are planning for some changes to the program this year with an emphasis on having fun and changing up some weekend races to more of a regatta format including several distance races.  We are looking at having a racing fleet meeting on January 16th at 6:00 pm and everyone is encouraged to attend.
--- Bart Maupin

Marty Haines and Meredith Ross correctly identified last week's photo, of the Rhône River as it exits Lake Geneva, in Geneva, Switzerland. We have another river in this week's picture. If you know the location, please send your answer to
