Big Picture Report Number 1
In my installation address, I outlined my priorities for the upcoming year noting that I was going to ask all Trustees and members to keep the “Big Picture” perspective in all activities related to the club. So, here is my first Big Picture report.
I want to thank several of the volunteers who have contributed to the success of the club over the short and long tenure of their involvement. First, is Susan Hempler who has kept the club in seasonal decor and artistic flair and style. Second is PC Terry Tavelli, who I so egregiously overlooked when I was calling out members of the club who contributed to the fantastic remodel 6 years ago. This has caused me to reflect on how easily it is to overlook those members who make contributions, big and small, over the course of every year. So, I want to ask for the membership’s help in reporting to me various volunteer contributions so we can maintain our focus on the importance of this aspect of club membership to the Club’s success.
Paul Myers and I had the opportunity last Thursday, October 6 to attend the Bellingham Technical College Foundation Scholarship Celebration Breakfast. At this breakfast, we were able to meet Jacob Mayer, the recipient of the 2016 BYC ‘Sink The Dinghy’ Scholarship Award. Jacob is a very determined young man currently enrolled in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences Curriculum. Jacob will be attending the Tom and Jerry party (when we told him about this he just looked at us with a quizzical smile as if he didn’t know what a Tom and Jerry was) to share his experience with us.
It is the time of year when Committee volunteer recruiting starts to gear up. This is your chance to get in on the fun of being a yacht club member serving on your favorite committee. No experience necessary just an interest in having “good fun”.
Tomorrow night, Tuesday, is the first ever Past Commodore and new Trustee Orientation and Board of Trustee meeting. Look for the highlights and next week’s big picture report number 2.
Cast no wake on our Burgee,
