From our Commodore….

The end of winter…
According to Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog, spring is on its way.  And here at the Club, folks are already starting to come out of their winter hibernations.  Read ahead for more excuses to come on down and meet up with your fellow members.
The Super Bowl is approaching national holiday status… and at some point Hallmark will probably be marketing cards for the occasion.  Be that as it may, it’s always a good excuse for a party, and I want to thank those folks that came on down to the Club to share the game together.  There wasn’t a bad seat in the house and Sam made sure nobody went thirsty.
Big thanks goes to Bob Snowball for being our official Chili Chairman.  He had the arduous task of breaking the tie breaker between Park Densmore and Pam Webber’s ‘5-Alarm Chili’ with 2 different tequilas and yours truly ‘Tubac Cluck’.  Bob, being the ever-correct parliamentarian, decided that both of us deserved to be on the ladle trophy – so congrats to all!
The next Friday’s at 5 (Feb 18), will be our next Town Hall meeting.  For those of you new to the Club, Past Commodore Pete and I had the very first one last fall.  It’s a great way for us on the Board to hear what you, the members, are wanting.  So please plan to come on down and share your thoughts and ideas.  The meeting will start at 6.  Please feel free to bring your always-appreciated appetizers.
The first cruise of the year will be a short shakedown sort of cruise to the Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes on February 19 and 20.  Time to shake off those lines and see if we all remember how to back our boats out!  The Anacortes Yacht Club will be open and ready to welcome us and there’s lots of moorage available. See information below.
Here’s hoping Punxsutawney Phil was right!  Bring on spring!
At your service,

Anacortes Cruise, February 19-20, UPDATE:
10 slips have been reserved; however, there is room for many more!  Please sign up by Super Bowl Sunday with boat name and length so we can plan meals, entertainment.
Moorage ($.70 per foot, plus $4.00 electricity).
Email to or sign up at the bar.

From our Fleet Captain…
The Super Bowl had a little of something for everybody this year: too many hours of pre-game hype, a botched National Anthem, good and bad commercials, and most of all a good hard fought football game that was interesting until the end.  Congratulations to the Packers!!
There was a nice sized crowd at the club enjoying the game and seven great chilies!!  It was hard to choose a winner – they were all great.  In fact, the running was so close we had a tie for first place with all other chilies not far behind.  This year’s winners of the Silver Ladle trophy are Commodore Michele Bennett and Park Densmore & Pam Webber.  Congratulations on a job well done!!!
With only minutes left in the first quarter, the final square of the football pool was sold and the numbers assigned.  The ever changing score in the game resulted in four different winners, with the final score winner holding their collective breath hoping the Steelers wouldn’t push down the field and score in the final seconds.  This year’s winners are: 1st Quarter – Michael Tario, 2nd Quarter – Jim Langei, 3rd Quarter – Roberta McCord, and the Final Score winner was Ray Poorman.  Congrats to all and thank you for playing!!
Our firsteducational seminar of the winter season has been scheduled – Wayne Kelsoe has graciously offered to speak to us again about the perils of electricity and boating.  Wayne has dusted off his presentation and giving it a face-lift.  This is a very important topic for all boaters and we are very lucky to have a member that can speak to the issues and provide valuable information.  Stay tuned for details on the date and time.
The youth fleet is gearing up another active summer on the water.  If you have any interest in helping with this program, we want to hear from you.  All levels of interest are encouraged respond; let us help you get involved.  Please contact me if you are interested at or 360-720-4155.
Fair winds,
Michele Bodtke
