Ah, the last throws of summer... time to squeeze in one last cruise before the kiddos head back to school.  With the close of summer, the Club begins to transition with the seasons... and this means Election Time.  Everyone has skills they can bring to the table, so please consider running for one of the open positions on the Board.  I can say from experience, that it will be a most rewarding adventure!

WED: 19 August: Burgers and Brats; THURS: 20 August: Monica's Mexican;  FRI21 August: Friday @ 5;  SAT: 22 August: BAR CLOSED!  (See you at Inati Bay!)
WOW! (Wait, that was a different regatta)…WHAT A TURNOUT!!!
As soon as the abacus quits smoking we will figure out what kind of donation we accomplished for the
Breast Cancer Research Foundation. There were shirts and hats selling like wildfire; Chef Mick was on fire; Maître D' Dick (Labadie)  kept the wheels on the bus and everyone was served in good form.  We heard from Ashley Bell, Honorary Member and CEO of Sound Contributions, the ‘parent’ 501 (C) (3) organization supporting the overall efforts of the Pink Boat Fundraising effort.
What is most important to me is that we support ALL of the Cancer Survivors in our CLUB…we have too many members who have been afflicted by this disease and we need to do everything we can to change this.  The Pink Boat Regatta is a Sailor’s Best Effort at doing just that.  But it's not limited to Sailors…its everyone in our community, so let’s dig in, have some fun, and make some money for the BCRF!  Donate NOW at or, call me, 206.919.0371 or email
August 30 is not too far away and there are many ways you can become involved!

Want another way to help with the Pink Boat Regatta that doesn't involve sailing? If you knit, you can help. Barb Demorest of Knitted Knockers visited us during steak night with a presentation about this great way to get involved and help women as they heal after surgery. While we work toward the cure, you can help make lives better.

Visit or stop by the BYC bar for Barb's business card and a pamphlet.

Announcement of a BYC General Membership Meeting on Wednesday September 2nd @ 7 PM
After the BYC Nominations there will be a BYC General Membership Meeting.   There will be a couple new By-Law Changes that must be voted on by the General Membership, as well as an opportunity to talk with the BYC Officers and Trustee and voice any concerns.    Also, although it is not on the agenda, but if the Board motions to increase dues beyond inflation + CPI (6.6%), it must be presented to the BYC General Membership for approval.
Jonathan Knowles - Commodore

Remember -- No fires at Inati Bay until further notice.  Thank you for your cooperation!!

After a very successful Pink Boat Steak Nite fundraiser, we’re resting up! Thanks to the cooks, servers, bartender and others who helped behind the scenes with food prep and setup! It’s volunteers like you folks who make events like this possible, and you are very much appreciated!

This coming weekend is the always fun and amazing Buccaneer's Cruise! Look for some new activities and events for young swashbucklers-to-be, and of course there’ll be lots of goings-on for the adults as well! Read more about it elsewhere in this issue! Note that the bar will be closed on Saturday so head on over to Inati Bay and join the festivities!

WED: Burgers hot off the grill!

THUR: Monica’s Mexican, with fresh grilled carne asada and those tasty bean burritos!

FRI: It’s Fri @ 5 again, so if you’re waiting for Saturday to head for Inati, “come on down” and bring those apps and dishes to share!

SAT: Bar closed! Kegs and food available on the beach at Inati!

See you in the lounge!  -- Steve

Once again we will be holding our annual PITCH regatta on September 5 & 6.

Dale Jepsen One Design Needs You!

Please consider coming out to volunteer for this year's event.  The Dale Jepsen One Design Regatta is a primary revenue generator for the sailing fleet.  It allows us to put on racing throughout the year.  A strong sailing program is a vital piece of the puzzle that keeps our club strong. We need folks on shore just as much as on the water. Please consider spending one or 2 days with us for a couple hours on shore, or several hours on the water.  The event takes place Saturday and Sunday, September 19th and 20th.

If you would like to help us, please contact me at  It will be MUCH appreciated!

 Mike Poulos, DJOD Regatta Chair

Last Saturday,  Tim Mumford let me borrow his Boston Whaler so me and wife, Ann, could blaze over to our Inati Bay Outstation and check out the log boom obstructing the beach. The boom is obstructing the prime beach access but hopefully we’ll work with land owner, Jim Dickenson, before the Buccaneer's Cruise this weekend.   We had planned to meet up with Tom & Sue Day, but then unknowingly 5 other members had shown up.  Sail Fleet Captain, Bart Maupin & Shannon Connor on DreamTimeSheri  & Brian Van Keulen, Jon & Leslie Seestrom on Rocinante with a boat load of friends and kids,  next  Tim Thompson & Susan Henderson showed up... then Jack Santosuosso and the Thompson kids on a small dinghy, and then finally Mark & Katy Santosuosso on the recently converted powersailer, Virginia.   What a great impromptu get together on a beautiful day at our BYC Inati Bay Outstation.
The Buccaneer's Cruise & Family Picnic at Inati Bay is this weekend, starting off on Friday with an Open grill & Double feature movie.   The planning committee met last week and everything is coming together (see article above).   We’ll start transporting supplies over on Friday afternoon and then again on Saturday morning along with the Band’s Equipment.  There is still a need for more volunteers with setup, games, cooking & cleanup, so check in with myself or Nicole Jordan.
This Thursday will be my second to last Board Meeting as your Commodore.  Although it’s been a lot of work, I’ve really enjoyed getting to know everyone in the club.   At the meeting there will be an update on the International Youth Sailing Center proposal at Cornwall Ave, the upcoming BYC Elections, an inflationary dues increase for next year, and status on the bookkeeper position.
I hope to see everyone this weekend in full Pirate dress!
 Commodore Jonathan

This Week's Photo Contest

Last week's picture captured a sunset over Montague Harbour, BC. No one correctly identified the location.

This week we see a (slightly fuzzy) aerial view of a waterway. If you know the location, send your answer to
