Just a few more shopping days 'til Christmas!   The BYC cookbook, The Gourmet Galley is a great stocking-stuffer gift for friends and family.
Sink the Dinghy
Another $800 was added to the Dinghy at last Friday's Christmas Party.  Way to go!!  The "bailing bucket" will continue to be passed throughout this season with the final wrap-up happening at the 'Souper' Bowl in February.  All monies raised go to help Adrienne and her family - currently seeking assistance from Rebound of Whatcom County.
Rebound, is a 501(c)3 organization, so your checks can be tax deductible.  To read more about Adrienne's story, click here...
Captain's Course coming to the BYC!
Interested in adding a Captain's License to your resume?  Skip Anderson and his Flagship Maritime course are coming to the BYC.  Dates are February 2 - 13, 8am to 5pm daily.  For more information, see the full flyer.
Note that next week is Christmas week and the bar will be closed while we install new flooring in the cooler. The lounge will of course be available, just the bar will be closed!
This week will be business as usual, after a very successful and well attended Christmas Party last Friday!
WED: Soup Kitchen Nite, with Turkey Noodle Soup by Randy and Dick!
THUR: Carne Asada by Chef Monica. And don’t forget Thursday Nite Football!
FRI: Come on down and bring apps and dishes to share as you visit with friends!
SAT: It’s Saturday eve, and what better time to visit the club and hang out over a libation or two!
See you in the lounge! --Steve Hayward
I'm very happy to announce that Scott Wilson has agreed to come aboard as the BYC Youth Race Team Director. Scott has successfully brought the local high school sailing teams together as their coach and took Sehome to the high school national championships last year. Scott has been the driving force in the area for young competitive sailors and I believe Scott brings the skills needed to manage a revival of youth racing for our club. Megan Link, our Learn to Sail Director, will be working with Scott to scout talent during the summer and be the Opti fleet coach.  --Mike Powell

Last Friday the Christmas Party was yet another great and well attended BYC event that seems to be happening a lot!   Whew!!… I’m not sure I can keep up with this pace!!   Although the Club provided the 4 turkeys, big thanks go to RC Neil Bennett and Katy Day who labored all day cooking them up.  Also big thanks go out to Randy Klemann, Dan Ringler, Susan Henderson and Terry Tavelli for carving them up, and all those who provided stuffing and side dishes.  Sorry about the Stuffing contest not happening… they all must have been outstanding since they all were gone by the time I got through the line!!   Next year perhaps!
Perhaps you’ve read in the Youth Sailing news above, the BYC is bringing aboard Scott Wilson, the Whatcom High Team Head Coach as the new BYC Youth Racing Director.  Scott’s local successes are well known,  however,  he has significant experience at  the regional & national levels  with serving on the Boards of the Seattle Sailing Foundation, Bellingham Sailing Foundation,  ISCA (College Sailing) &  Northwest ISSA (High School Sailing).    Please join me in congratulating Scott in his new role.
This week is a yet another BYC event... the Last Friday’s @ Five of 2014!  I don’t have a theme yet, but if you have any good ideas, post it on the BYC’s Facebook page.  The selected winner will get a free drink on Commenormous  Knowles' account!  Also, if you - or a committee you serve on - would like to host a BYC Friday’s at Five, the club will be provide $150 for food costs.
We’re getting close to publishing the 2015 BYC Events Calendar.  There are lots of great events planned for everyone… Sailing, Cruising, Youth, Boating Education, and Social... stay tuned.
