Neighborhood Block Party Sunday!

IMAGE: Block PartyGrab your lawn chairs and blankets, pack up a cooler, and join us for a good old-fashioned neighborhood block party this Sunday, August 18 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm! We'll be setting up at the western-most end of the 2500 block of Moffat Street, adjacent to Lucy Flower Park.

While supplies last, we'll be handing out freshly grilled hot dogs (courtesy of 1st Ward Alderman Joe Moreno), apple slices from McDonald's, and frozen treats compliments of the WBNA. Please feel free to bring along a goodie or two of your own to share with the group — this is an occasion that calls for some serious neighborhood noshing!

KIDDIE KARNIVAL
IMAGE: Dunk TankBring your little West Bucktowners by to try their hand at some old-school carnival games. They'll have a blast and win some small prizes in the process! We'll also have face painting (courtesy of UrbanSitter.com), tattoos (thanks to Jeremy at Chicago True Blue), bubbles, sidewalk chalk, free popcorn, and more!  The highlight of the Kiddie Karnival will be the dunk tank — and Alderman Moreno has agreed to take a turn on the hot seat!  Rumor has it he'll be joining us right around 2:00, so stop by and take your best shot!

CRAFT CORNER
IMAGE: Craft TableChannel your inner warrior and create a colorful tribal mask! Or put your personal touch on a square to add to our very own West Bucktown community quilt!

POOCH PLAYPLACE
West Bucktown's own Canine Crews is sponsoring a special doggy-friendly area where our four-legged friends can stop by for yummy treats and a refreshing splash in the "pooch pool." All we ask is that you keep your pups on a leash, pretty please!

SPANISH STORY TIME
At 3:00, join Multilingual Connections for a fun, interactive reading of "Donde Viven Los Monstruous" ("Where the Wild Things Are").  Kids of all ages will enjoy hearing this classic tale told in two languages!

BAGS TOURNAMENT
While we could certainly call this a friendly game of baggo (AKA "cornhole"), we all know the gloves will come off when there are cool prizes at stake! The tournament gets underway at about 3:30 — just stop by the registration table to sign up. And don't worry if you don't have a partner — we'll take care of pairing everyone up, and all ages are welcome!

AND MORE!
IMAGE: FiretruckWe're keeping our fingers crossed for a visit from a Chicago Fire Department truck later in the afternoon. We can't make any promises, but barring any emergencies in the area, our little ones will have a chance to meet some real firemen and get up and close personal with a CPD truck!

If you attended last year's block party, then you know how much fun this event is for young and old alike. It's by far one of the easiest and most relaxed ways to get outside, enjoy our community, and meet some great neighbors in the process. Hope to see everyone there!

A Special Note to Moffat Street Residents

If you live along the 2500 block of Moffat Street, or if you frequently park your car in that area, we're asking for your cooperation in making sure that the street is clear of vehicles for our block party on Sunday. As a reminder to residents, signs are being posted along the street. Although the actual party will run from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, set-up will begin at noon, so cars should be moved during the morning hours if at all possible.

Our city-issued permit covers the entire block, but the party will likely only stretch from Rockwell east to about 3/4 of the way down Moffat. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes to our neighbors, and we hope you'll join us for what promises to be an afternoon of fun!

Third Thursday Tomorrow Night

IMAGE: Third ThursdayPlease join us at Maplewood Park tomorrow, Thursday, August 15, at 6 pm for a little neighbor-to-neighbor hang-out. Think of it as practice for the block party on Sunday! Turnout has been great this year at previous Third Thursdays, and once again, the weather this week is looking spectacular!
