Calling All Backyard Barbecuers!
Ever been told you have a real flair with a pair of barbecue tongs?  Do you get those nice grill lines on your hotdogs without blackening them to the point where the kids won't touch them?  Then the WBNA Events Committee sure could use your help!  We're looking for a few good backyard barbecuers who would be willing to help us grill and serve hotdogs at the annual WBNA BBQ at Maplewood Park on Saturday, July 31.  (If you've got a portable grill you can bring along with you, even better!)  And even if barbecuing just isn't your thing, we also need volunteers to help out with set-up and general coordination during the event.  Interested? Please send an email to and we'll be in touch with details.

The BBQ is an annual gathering of West Bucktowners that is held in conjunction with the neighborhood Yard Sale.  It promises to be a real family-friendly event, with an activity line-up that includes a b
ouncy house for the kids, an acrobatic performance by MSA & Circus Arts, an arts-n-crafts table hosted by the Cortland Preschool, and face painting complements of Easel Art Studio. There will also be free hotdogs for all, as well as food and drink donations from area restaurants, including McDonald's and Subway.  All food will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last, beginning at 11:30 am.  It's sure to go quickly, so get there early!

Yard Sale Spaces Going Fast!
Take advantage of the increased foot traffic the WBNA BBQ will bring to Maplewood Park and reserve your space at the neighborhood yard sale today!  Organized by the Maplewood Lucy Flower Advisory Council (MLFPAC), the yard sale is being held in conjunction with the BBQ on Saturday, July 31 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Don't miss this great opportunity to clean out your closets and make a few bucks at the same time!  For a small $25 fee (which directly benefits MLFPAC and the many park programs it supports) you get an assigned 10 ft. x 10 ft. area within the park to sell your stuff.  The sale is open to West Bucktown residents and non-residents alike and will be publicized throughout the city.  This is a rain-or-shine event, and sellers are required to bring their own tables, chairs and supplies. Space is limited, so reserve your spot today!  Email  Cash payment is due the morning of the sale.

Third Thursday This Week at Maplewood Park
It's that time again -- time for another Third Thursday gathering of West Bucktowners in Maplewood Park!  The weather this Thursday, July 15 is looking good, so pack up some food, grab a few drinks, and head on over to the park at 6:30 to mix and mingle with friends.  There's no better way to get to know your neighbors than at an informal summertime shindig.  We hope to see everyone there!

West Bucktown Book Club
Do you like curling up with a good book and a nice glass of wine? Then how about sharing that experience with others who feel as passionately about reading as you do!  The WBNA is looking to organize a West Bucktown Book Club, which could be just the incentive we all need to ditch the sweatpants, get out of the house, exercise our minds a little, and have some fun in the process.  Joining a book club is not only intellectually rewarding, it's also a great way to socialize and make a few new friends.  If you'd like to hear more, email Amanda at, and she'll keep you in the loop as details become available.
