LET'S MEET UP AND CLEAN UP!

It's that time of year again...time to put a little spit and polish on the ol' West Bucktown neighborhood with our annual spring Clean & Green!

IMAGE: Clean & GreenOnce again, we're coordinating our efforts with National Earth Day, Chicago's citywide Clean & Green program, and the 1st Ward's own community clean-up initiatives. This is a great opportunity to get the whole family involved in giving West Bucktown a thorough spring cleaning!

We’ll meet at Maplewood Park on Saturday, April 20th at 10:00 am, divvy up the neighborhood by blocks, then fan out to clear trash and debris from the surrounding streets. The WBNA will provide latex gloves and trash bags, as well as coffee and donuts for all volunteers. If possible, please bring your own rake or broom to help make light work of the job at hand.

If you can't make it next Saturday but still want to be part of this community effort, please consider sprucing up your own yard or parkway during the week, or even clearing trash from a vacant lot. Together, we'll have West Bucktown sparkling like new again in no time!

STREET SWEEPING RESUMES IN CHICAGO

The beginning of spring heralds the return of street sweeping season, which runs from April 1 through November 30 in Chicago. And that means the city's Department of Revenue agents will once again be out in full force vigorously enforcing parking restrictions on our residential streets!

IMAGE: Parking TicketSave yourself the time, money and hassle of getting one of those aggravating orange tickets by signing up for the 1st Ward Street Sweeping Text Alert System. You'll receive text alerts the evening before and the morning of your scheduled street cleaning -- in plenty of time to move your car!

If you signed up last year, you will continue to receive text alerts this year. Otherwise, click here now to register for this FREE service!

THEY CAME,
THEY HUNTED,
THEY WENT HOME HAPPY

Chilly temperatures couldn't keep West Bucktown families from enjoying the 8 minutes or so that it took for kids to strip Maplewood park of candy-filled eggs during the annual WBNA Easter Egg Hunt on March 23. This year, we handed out more than 2,000 pieces of candy and 150

prizes, plus balloons and tattoos for the little ones. Special congratulations to 6-year old Josve, our Grand Prize winner who will be riding his brand new bike around the neighborhood this spring!
