WE DID IT!

IMAGE: Fundraising FlowerCongratulations, West Bucktown...you've gone and raised yourselves a brand-new park!

After several years of dedicated fundraising efforts, the Maplewood & Lucy Flower Park Advisory Council (MLFPAC) announced last week that we have reached the $70K goal required from the community to have our little Lucy Flower Park renovated this year. Another $140,000 has been generously allocated by 1st Ward Alderman Joe Moreno, with the Chicago Park District picking up the remainder of the $425K the renovation project is expected to cost.

MLFPAC will turn over a check for $70,000 to the Chicago Park District on August 1, at which point the construction project will be bid out. If all goes well, we're told they could be breaking ground as early as this September!

We're going to continue to push for final brick orders and/or general donations through the end of the month, because we'd like to see a bit of buffer in the MLFPAC bank account to cover ongoing park expenses. So if you've been meaning to contribute, don't despair -- you still have a couple weeks left to make your mark on the park!  But please note that the deadline for all brick orders is July 31.

This renovation project is truly a wonderful example of how great things can happen when neighbors come together to support a common cause. We should feel very proud of this accomplishment, West Bucktown. Together, we're creating a beautiful park that EVERYONE, young and old alike, can enjoy. What's more, its location (just steps away from the soon-to-be-renovated Bloomingdale Trail) will help Lucy Flower Park serve as a wonderful gateway into the West Bucktown community for generations to come.

GRACIAS!

Huge kudos go out to the following neighbors, friends, businesses, and organizations for joining the Lucy Flower "Seeds of Change" donor recognition ranks. Without their very generous contributions over the years, this renovation project would not be possible:*
