MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK AT LUCY FLOWER
The Lucy Flower Garden Club officially kicked off its third growing season last weekend with a "Garden Day" at the park, and turnout was the best we've seen in years. Many thanks to all the neighborhood green thumbs who rolled up their sleeves and worked together to weed, mulch, plant, fence, re-seed and paint. Your sweat equity has paid off in spades — pun intended! Thanks to your efforts, our little playlot is ready to step out in style this summer. In fact, one of the raised beds has been "adopted" by a West Bucktown resident, and the Park District is donating vegetables for the other two, so watch for even more progress at the park in weeks to come.
Speaking of progress….one thing we didn't anticipate was the amount of time and effort it would take to mix the oil-based paint needed for the playground equipment. As a result, we didn't get quite as much painting done last weekend as we would have liked. So we're planning to finish up this Sunday, June10 from noon until 3:00-ish. Mother Nature is promising a hot one, but there's plenty of shade at Lucy Flower. So grab a paintbrush and join us -- together, we'll have that graffiti covered up in no time!
NOTE: While we're normally all about children at Lucy Flower, please consider leaving the kiddos at home for this particular project. Oil-based paint can be very messy and difficult to remove from little hands, hair and clothing!

Mark your calendars — West Bucktown's parks will be hopping this summer! Here's just a sampling of a few upcoming events:
Next THURSDAY, JUNE 21 is our first Third Thursday of the summer at Maplewood. Grab the family and head on over to the park at 6:00 pm and enjoy a casual evening just hanging out with other West Bucktowners. This is a great way to meet your neighbors and make a few new friends!
The Maplewood & Lucy Flower Park Advisory Council (along with a generous donation from West On North) is hosting a fundraiser to support the renovation of Lucy Flower Park. Please join us at West On North (2509 W. North) next SATURDAY, JUNE 23 from 6-8:00 pm to hear about the proposed project and see preliminary plans for the park. For a suggested donation of $20/adult (kids are free!), you'll enjoy two hours of pizza, beer, and neighborly banter…plus a crafts table for the kids. Everyone is welcome! Email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
