Put Your Party Pants On!
Everyone who’s anyone in West Bucktown will be heading out to the WBNA Holiday Party this Thursday, December 9th from 7 to 9 pm at Life’s a Cabernet, 1937 W. North Ave. Stop by and play “pass the pour” with us as we share some delicious wine, yummy munchies and great conversation! This is a casual mix-n-mingle event …a fun way to celebrate the season with your neighbors and make a few new friends in the process.

(And while you’re at it, why not plan to pick up a few extra bottles of vino to give as holiday gifts this year?)

We’ll also be taking up a collection to help support the Humboldt Park Social Services Holiday Campaign, a wonderful non-profit organization that helps the homeless and disadvantaged in our area.  All the money we collect will help fund emergency food programs like the Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry, as well as the men’s transitional shelter. Even if you can’t attend the party, we encourage you to go here to make your online donation.

We look forward to celebrating the season with everyone on Thursday! Drop us a line at to let us know to expect you.

Happy Talk
The WBNA Book Club just wrapped up its latest discussion, and the topic this time around was the story of one man’s year-long quest to find the happiest places in the world. “The Geography of Bliss” by Eric Weiner was met with generally positive yet somewhat lukewarm reviews by group members. The conversation lasted two hours, but can be pretty much summed up like this:
  • “Thought-provoking, especially on the subject of trust.”
  • “Liked it, but found it repetitive.”
  • “Smart and funny, if a little dry in spots.”
  • “Really made me think, but not a page turner. “

Next Up:  The Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 27 to discuss “Work” by Louisa May Alcott. If you’d like to join us for a little wine and insightful conversation, please email Amanda at and we’ll gladly add you to our distribution list!

Child’s Play
The WBNA Play Group held its inaugural gathering last week, drawing a nice mix of West Bucktown moms and kids all eager for a little social interaction. The atmosphere was very laid back and casual, with everyone agreeing that despite the cold weather, it was great to simply have the chance to get out of the house and enjoy a change of scenery!

The group is planning to meet regularly for an hour or so each Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and will rotate among members’ homes. Beginning in 2011, there is also talk of possibly making the last Wednesday of the month a “luncheon” so the group can check out area kid-friendly restaurants together.

The next play group is scheduled for this Wednesday, December 8 at the home of Angela Mead, 1736 N. Rockwell. The current group includes children ages 4 through 17 months, but anyone with kids from birth through age 3 is welcome to participate. If you’d like to join the group or simply want more information, please email Angela at
