First off, HELLO! Team K2 has decided to stay in Geneva until 2018. Originally we were going to depart in the Summer of 2017, but decided a few weeks ago to stay. The search now begins on where to go in 2018.
The second bit of news relates to the subject of this newsletter, Returning to My Roots. After many years away from my clothing designs, I have returned, am very happy and have been received with open arms with new clients from around the world, as well as those who started with me during my days in Atlanta. Some of you on the receiving end of this know me solely as The Hushbox guy, but for a time, I managed both.
On a recent trip to India, I had a chance to understand and see first hand, the block printing process. I’m fascinated by this craft as the finished products remind me of the cloths that I use to see my elders make quilts with as a youth.
Block printing is a form of dying and coloring a fabric using wooden blocks. India is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of block printed fabric in the world. Block printing craftsmen use wooden or metal blocks to create beautiful designs; sometimes, linoleum blocks are also used.
