The VTL is Now Accepting Members!

While the VTL is still in it's start-up phase (fundraising, building our tool inventory, and setting up the shop space), one of the most effective ways you can support us is by becoming a member! Membership sign-ups are really important to us right now because the funds raised through them contribute to our tool purchasing fund and other start-up costs. We encourage anyone who is excited about using the tool library in the future to become a member this month and as a special thanks to show our appreciation for everyone who becomes a member before we are officially lending out tools, we are adding two months to the annual maintenance fee renewal cycle, so you'll get 14 months worth of tool loans rather than 12.

We are in the shop every Wednesday (5-8pm) and Saturday (noon-3pm) for you to stop by meet us, and sign up for your membership. You can pay your $20 member share and $30 annual maintenance fee with cash or cheque (but there's always an ATM accross the street from us if you forget cash at home). As soon as we work out the technical kinks, membership signups will also be available online so keep an eye out for that within the next couple weeks if you can't make it into the shop.

Upcoming Fundraiser with Ten Thousand Villages

We are very excited to be partnering with Ten Thousand Villages' Denman Store for an upcoming fundraising event. The store specializes in fair trade artisan products and handicrafts sourced ethically from around the world and will be donating 15% of the proceeds from all purchases made in their store on June 11th and 12th to The VTL! Volunteers and Board Members from the tool library will be on hand both days to chat with customers and share the fair trade tea, chocolate, and other snacks that the store is offering for the duration of the special event. So spread the word and take a stroll down Denman street next weekend to support The VTL and a store committed to building relationships with the artisans with whom it works.

Ten Thousand Villages is located at 929 Denman Street, hours for the fundraiser are Saturday June 11th (10am - 8pm) and Sunday June 12th (11am - 7pm). Hope to see you there!

The VTL Wins Urban Sustainability Grant!

A very special thanks goes out to Mountain Equipment Co-op's Vancouver store, which awarded The VTL its Urban Sustainability Grant last month. The grant was awarded to The VTL based on our organization's contribution towards waste reduction through collective tool ownership, and our capacity to support our members' initiatives to improve and green their homes and communities. Thanks MEC!

Air Miles and Canadian Tire Money

It's an easy, low cost way to support our launch. Check out the details here and please get in touch if you'd like to donate one -
