Obedience Brings Blessings


Edgar Suc:

One of the best things we get to experience while we are in Guatemala is the rising leaders in Ministerios Impacto (Impact Ministries in Guatemala).  Edgar Suc was one of the first three graduates that came up through the first Impact Ministries school.

Edgar had a hard life growing up, with a father that treated him and his family badly, and left the family for another woman when Edgar was four years old.  In spite of this beginning, since Edgar was sponsored in the Impact Ministries school, he was exposed to the gospel and received hope.  He came to faith and as he grew in his faith, he eventually came to forgive his father and is praying that his father will come to faith as well.

This aspiring student studied agriculture in high school and went on to one of the best universities in Guatemala to study agricultural engineering. Edgar now leads the agriculture program at Impact Ministries and helps teach the agricultural track at the high school.

As Edgar was approaching graduation and was now highly educated, he started receiving several prestigious.  At the same time, he was preparing to marry Shenny Pop.  As you might have guessed, people working for Impact Ministries do not make large sums of money.  Edgar had a choice to make.  Take one of the lucrative job offers and have a life he could never have imagined as a child, or stay with Impact Ministries and help other children like he was helped.  

Edgar decided to stay with Impact Ministries and try to grow the agricultural program, but it was hard.  The ministry wanted to grow more of the food used in the feeding program to help increase the sustainability of the program.  Efforts to grow green beans for export to Europe did not yield the results desired.  What could be done.

Rebecca Houweling asked her father Casey to come to Guatemala to see if he could help Impact Ministries.  Casey being a high tech tomato farmer did not think he had anything to offer, but decided to come at the insistence of his daughter.  Once Casey understood the nutritional challenges in Guatemala and having met Edgar and his desire to help the children in the Impact Ministries schools, Cassie felt like there might be something that could be done.

Edgar and Casey traveled around Guatemala looking at greenhouses and agricultural operations in the country.  Once Casey got back to Canada he started reaching out to his contacts to begin the "Seeds of Tomorrow" project.  Kubo, a greenhouse manufacturer in Holland, where Casey buys his greenhouses, agreed to provide a greenhouse for Impact Ministries.  

Scores of individuals and companies donated funds to ship the greenhouse to Guatemala and prepare the site for it's construction. At the end of May, construction on the greenhouse began and completed in early July.  Impact Ministries and Edgar are now the proud owners of the most high tech (approx. 5,000 sq ft) greenhouse in all of Guatemala.  

The ministry now has the opportunity to grow more food and a greater variety for the feeding program and can eventually grow additional seedlings to distribute to families who are part of the school and even more to sell in the market.  God is awesome!  Edgar's decision to follow God's calling and passion on his life led to greater blessing in his life and the lives of the children in the program.
