Back to school, back to healthy
September 2015

Hello, my dear friend,

After a body-numbing August (mostly in a good way), I'm so glad to be sitting here writing you a love letter. August was filled with a back-to-school media blitz. First, while I was visiting family in Wisonsin, Jenny McCarthy interviewed me over the phone on her show "Dirty, Sexy, Funny" on SIRIUS XM about my back-to-school tidbites. If you are a subscriber, you can listen to it here (airdate: 8/14/15). She was such a talented host on air and interviewer--it flowed so naturally--and I had a blast.

The next day upon arrival back home, I packed my recipes for a trip to L.A. to see the lovely and talented Lori Corbin on ABC-TV LA Eyewitness News, talking back-to-school hacks. And then later that week I shared my back-to-school tips on getting back on track, on Arizona Midday. There are sure to be some tasty tips for you and your family (kids or not!) to eat and feel your best.

And now, it is "game on" for packing lunch boxes daily. This issue is full of new and fun ideas, from my "munchable" boxes to chocolaty treats. Check out my aStore for the full rundown of which containers and gadgetry I use for my girls' lunches.

As we celebrate a new year of school, I am excited to mention that we--you and me-- are celebrating a milestone--September marks the first annual anniversary of this newsletter. Thank you so much for subscribing this first year, and a special thanks to those of you who took the time last month to fill out my survey. Congrats to Sally from Montana, the randomly selected winner of the $50 gift card! I love getting feedback from all of you. Muah.

And finally, to my Nashville pretties: I will be in your town October 2 and 3 and will be hosting a meet-up at 10 am at a downtown cafe on one of these days. Please email me if you'd like to meet up and we'll take it from there.

Love you guys and gals! I really do.

The Michelle File: My Latest Recipes
One day three years ago, I asked Scarlet what she wanted for lunch, and she said, "Lunchables"!!$^&*!. Truth. So, I created my own Munchables, which are made with simpler, more nutritious ingredients. They are easy to put together and infinitely adaptable to whatever your kid craves. I find myself packing and eating them, too.
Pudding is a wholesome treat for kids (and adults!), while also squeezing in a good dose of calcium and 7 grams of high-quality protein. Instead of buying pre-packaged pudding snacks, you can make your own using fresh chocolate milk. Made with 5 simple ingredients, my Chocolate Milk Tapioca Pudding gives you all of the goodness you want, and none of the stuff you don’t. This can easily be made gluten-free, too, by selecting the GF versions of each ingredient.

Lunch box bonus: Creamy Vegan White Bean Ranch DipWhat kid doesn't like to dip their carrots, their French fries or, um, their fingers (Stella does!) in ranch dressing? My White Bean Ranch Dip has the familiar ranch flavor that everyone loves, plus a boost of protein and fiber from mild and creamy white beans. The perfect packable for every ranch-lover's lunch box.
