Laguna Lodge, Guatemala
— and NEW TOUR for 2012
This may be your last chance to join us for our Guatemala tour, January 30 – February 13, 2012. We are taking no more than eight people and currently have just one room available.
This will be a truly fabulous tour, including stays at two 5-star boutique hotels (see picture of El Convento room to the left), a visit to spectacular Tikal, and lodging at two of Guatemala’s top coffee plantations. From the magnificent ruins of Tikal to the volcanic ring of fire on the Pacific Slope, there are numerous exceptional areas to bird and participants could find themselves adding hundreds of species to their life lists. For a taste of what will be in store for you, download the notes I made from our prospecting trip earlier this year or check out the full tour itinerary (PDF).
Top birds include Great and Thicket Tinamou, Orange-breasted, Laughing and Bat Falcon, Plumbeous Kite, White Hawk, Ocellated Turkey, Collared, Slaty-tailed, Gartered and Black-headed Trogon, Emerald Toucanet, Pale-billed, Linneated, Chestnut-colored Woodpecker, six species of Woodcreeper, Ochre-bellied and Northern Royal Flycatcher, Pacific Parakeet, Mountain Trogon, Green-throated Mountain-gem, Rufous Sabrewing, Gray-collared Becard, Chestnut-sided Shrike-Vireo, Hood Grosbeak, Flame-colored Tanager, Cinnamon-bellied Flowerpiercer, Chestnut-capped Brush-Finch, Ruddy-capped Nightingale-Thrush, Black-vented and Bar-winged Oriole, Pink-headed Warbler, Horned Guan, White-bellied Chachalaca, Tody Motmot, Long-tailed Manikin, Azure-rumped Tanager, Spot-breasted Oriole, Unicolor Jay, Wine-throated Hummingbird, Black-capped Siskin, Cinnamon Hummingbird and Violet Sabrewing.

We currently have spaces remaining on our extensive Alaska schedule. We offer the most flexibility for those wanting to mix and match Alaska trips. You can do one trip or five trips together if you like; you’re not locked in to a limited, inflexible set of choices. Instead, you can combine trips, such as, Pribilof Islands, Gambell and Nome, and receive a discount for doing so.
We visit all the best birding hot-spots in Alaska and offer the most comprehensive schedule of any birding company operating there, allowing you to build your own ideal trip in a convenient, cost-effective manner. As well as a true small-group experience (we provide a guide for every seven participants, no matter the size of the group, wherever economically feasible), we devote more time to each area, allowing us to explore and experience each areas’ unique habitats, people and culture, like our sea watch at Gambell (left).
Please see our trip reports and clients’ comments. We are confident that we can provide you with the most enjoyable and productive Alaska trip available anywhere and currently have spaces available on tours to most locations on our extensive Alaska schedule.
WATCH THIS SPACE!
For 2012, we are putting together a repeat trip to Namibia, Botswana and Victoria Falls with a pre-trip to the Western Cape area of South Africa. We had a truly amazing journey through these locations in 2008, and we expect to have another great trip next year. We’ll stay in top lodges and have an outstanding guide for the entire tour. For a small taste of what it will be like, I have included a picture (right) I took at Etosha waterhole on that tour.
Please let us know if you’re interested. We always strive to provide top birding experiences, but it helps our planning if customers tell us what they would enjoy most. Putting a tour together takes considerable time and money, so we are always grateful when potential participants identify themselves in advance.
