Paper Trails...

You open the in-flight magazine to discover odd bits and pieces of imagery ripped away, missing. There’s a hole in the newspaper. And the cereal box won’t close—one of the flaps is gone.

I confess: I couldn’t help myself. I’ve salvaged a compelling fragment to inspire (or add to) another collage composition. Paper leads, I follow. Collected ingredients bring inherent energy and potential. In time, with patience, the paper trail leads to unexpected destinations.

Rearranged reality, assembled moments, and constructed views materialize in the collages. The work always, sometimes inexplicably, reflects and informs my creative growth / life journey.

Virtual Viewing beginning October 10!
For my far-flung friends/fans, I'll be posting a link to a virtual show on my website, beginning October 10.
Pour yourself a glass of wine and see the whole show at your leisure! I'll be reminding people when it's up via my Facebook page and twitter so consider following me there if you don't already... I'm also posting to Instagram these days.

Process: It looks rather refined once a show is hung... so here's a glimpse of what it really looks like in the studio as work and preparations are underway. (Collagists must be able to tolerate chaos!) Above are some small works under construction and below are assorted paper piles on my work surfaces as I'm looking for and evaluating elements for several pieces that are underway.

The view from here

The best part of flying is that being suspended between two places guarantees (usually) a bit of quiet time... On a recent flight, I loved reading about artist Mark Bradford. I'd admired his work but didn't know much about his life or background... what an amazing story. You can read "What Else Can Art Do?" from the New Yorker here.

It's been an incredibly hectic spring/summer, and I am so looking forward to a steadier fall season. I want to work on some new ideas, do some sketching/writing/thinking, take a vacation, see more shows, and catch up with myself... all that feeds the fire. As soon as this show gets hung... :)

Thanks for your interest in my work!

Here's to a productive and re-energizing fall.
