Dear Port Fairy Folk Festival Friend,

We are delighted to announce the Port Fairy Folk Festival Artists of the Year are Chris While & Julie Matthews. Chris and Julie have enchanted audiences at Port Fairy since their debut in 1997 and we believe it is only fitting for these Festival favourites of 20 years to be named 2018 Artist of the Year. These two artists represent the best of folk music, the artistry of words, extraordinary musicianship, with voices that interpret their poetry with a clarity and intensity that reaches audiences in a way that is unique. We are so looking forward to having Chris and Julie at the 42nd festival and are thrilled, in partnership with Maton Guitars, to present them with this honour. They will receive their award and launch their new CD Shoulder to Shoulder on opening night on Stage 1.

In 2018 we are so happy to present two On The Couch sessions with Brian Nankervis and a wonderful selection of our 2018 artists. On Saturday as a part of The Reardon Theatre program, Brian will be On The Couch with the one and only Steve Poltz, Ben Waters, Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker. On Sunday at the Lighthouse, On The Couch will explore the protest song and social justice in folk music with Andy Irvine, Chris While, Julie Matthews and Nigel Wearne. Brian’s incomparable intellect and warmth will put all artists at ease as the audience becomes a part of these wonderful musical sessions and intimate conversations.

On a sad note, we regret to announce that unfortunately Peter Rowan's 2018 Australian tour has been cancelled. Because of some ongoing health issues, he has been strongly advised by his doctor not to undertake any international travel and to take a complete break from performing until the end of March. Peter is very sorry to have to disappoint his fans, but he needs to now concentrate on regaining his health. We are thinking of him and a wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Next week we will announce the Emerging Artist of the Year Award and festival information so you can start planning your 2018 Port Fairy Folk Festival. The Festival grid will be live on our website on Feb 01.
Third release tickets on sale now until 15 February or until sold out.
Warmest regards,

With 22 years of unrivaled musical partnership gathering numerous nominations, awards and critical acclaim along the way, English singer/songwriters, Chris While & Julie Matthews return to their beloved Australia, which has become their second home. 2016 saw them playing at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Folk Awards with Boo Hewerdine, John McCusker and Kris Drever in a special performance of The Ballads of Child Migration. Later in the year they toured with all female supergroup Daphne’s Flight after a 21-year gap, bringing audiences to tears and to their feet. Chris and Julie are more powerful than ever and remain at the top of their game. This will be their thirteenth visit in 20 years, and they will launch their new album Shoulder to Shoulder.
