Dear Port Fairy Folk Festival Friend,

From Celtic gems to the Jamaican roots of ska music, the 2018 Festival will once again be a true celebration of the cultural diversity of folk music. We have stunning Australian acts Sásta and SugaTree who take  inspiration from the great music of Ireland, homegrown singer songwriter Fiona Kershaw, Scotland’s multi award winning Breabach, and last but by no means least (definitely not least as there will be 20+ on stage!) the Melbourne Ska Orchestra.

Folk music is of the world and of the people, and that is what this festival is about…. discovery, pushing perceptions and really focussing on the joie de vivre of the music, stories and commentaries of the life and times of people the world over. Ska music has its roots in Jamaica and is known for its critical social commentary, and we are so thrilled to be presenting Australia’s finest exponents of ska, The Melbourne Ska Orchestra. Their live performances are explosive and infectious. Their unique take on the genre of ska has wowed audiences and reggae and ska pioneers such as Stranger Cole, Owen Gray, Carlos Malcolm, Ranking Roger and Neville Staples to name a few. From Montreal to New York, Istanbul to London the Melbourne Ska Orchestra is resonating with audiences worldwide, both young and old, and in 2018 they will take to the stages of our much loved festival.

We are furiously working on the program grid and are aiming to get it to you well in advance so you can plot your musical and creative journey that will be the 2018 Port Fairy Folk Festival.

Stay tuned for further announcements.

Warmest regards as always,

The Program Team x
