Dear Port Fairy Folk Festival Friend,
On the cusp of the 43rd Festival we are delighted and proud to announce that the selection panel unanimously agreed that the 2019 Emerging Artist of the Year is Fenn Wilson
Fenn is from the Bellarine Peninsula and is a consummate singer songwriter with a depth of talent which belies his young age. His debut album, Tales Of The Black Dog
, released in 2015, features a collection of ballads, that highlight his powerful yet gentle and deep voice and strong, rhythmic guitar playing. Fenn is also an accomplished drummer. He performed at the festival in 2018 with Skronkadoodledoo, and was a guest artist for the Port Gospel Sessions, where his supreme performance brought the house down.
Upon being notified of the award, Fenn said "I’ve been coming to Port Fairy for most of my life. Last year was the first time I had the pleasure of playing here, now to be acknowledged for this award is truly one of the most spectacular moments of my young career. I would very much like to thank everyone involved, it’s a true honour and a privilege and has lifted me no end. Thank you”
Caroline Moore Program Director said “Fenn Wilson is a supremely talented vocalist and multi instrumentalist. Live and on record he is mesmerising…quite magical. I encourage everyone to make sure they catch Fenn at the Festival this year, as he personifies what the Emerging Artist of the Year represents, and I am excited by his great future.”
