Dear Port Fairy Folk Festival Friend,

The festival has forged an incredible reputation in its 42 year history, both in Australia and abroad. We are delighted to announce a further strengthening of our international ties and our commitment to promote and present excellence in folk music. Port Fairy Folk Festival is partnering with Folk Alliance International (FAI) in presenting the FAI ExChange in Geelong, in the lead up to the 2020 festival on 2, 3 & 4 March. The Exchange will be a gathering of artists, industry and presenters, and will feature keynote speakers, forums and a series of showcase concerts throughout the cultural precinct of Geelong. Showcase artists will comprise, international and national artists who will be selected from the FAI and PFFF application processes. There will also be a spotlight on regional Victorian artists.

Over the past few years we have set up an exchange program with Calgary Folk Festival, and worked closely with the East Coast Music Association (Canada), and we are delighted that an event such as the Exchange can further strengthen and celebrate the role the festival plays, not only in Australia but on the global stage. We are so thrilled that this event is able to happen on our doorsteps in the lead up to what will be a magnificent 2020 Port Fairy Folk Festival.

Geelong is the most fitting location for this event, as Port Fairy Folk Festival was established by the Geelong Folk Club in 1977. Jamie McKew, Festival Founder, and Geelong Folk Club Alumni said… "The timing is perfect! Geelong is booming with a dazzling renaissance of new young energy, culture and ideas. We are truly excited and honoured to be chosen for the next featured international FAI ExChange right here in a bunch of our favourite venues. Having just attended the Folk Alliance International conference in Montreal, I can only marvel at the musical force for true humanity that this largest folk music organisation so beautifully creates. Just jump on board and be a part of this brilliant project!"

The Festival is also delighted to be working with The City of Greater Geelong, Geelong Regional Library Corporation, Courthouse Youth Arts,Tourism Greater Geelong & The Bellarine, Sounds Australia, Folk Alliance Australia, and Woodford Festival on this project.  Further details will be announced by the end of September.
