//  Inclusive Agribusiness: the state of play

report Inclusive AgribusinessPlatform report__ There is a vast body of experience and knowledge about how agricultural markets can help to tackle poverty and encourage sustainable practices. However, this has not been fully tapped, synthesised and communicated in ways that can help to tackle the ongoing structural barriers of taking inclusive agribusiness initiatives to scale. Consequently, inclusive agribusiness is a field where the Platform can potentially make a significant contribution through its knowledge sharing, advocacy and networking functions.

This paper provides an initial mapping on inclusive agribusiness initiatives which highlights a weak and fragmented evidence base regarding impact. This in turn risks undermining the case for much needed investments to take promising examples to scale and further align public and private interests in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals.

//  The future of donor programmes in rural development

Donor Platform logoEvent__ Rural transformation is recognised as a process impacting on development with or without interventions. In other words, it constitutes the dynamics in the rural space and does not by itself provide directions for sustainable development. Agenda 2030 is seen as a strategic opportunity and a new momentum to discuss sustainability in rural transformation and the role of donor agencies and international finance institutions.

As part of our Strategic Initiative on Agenda 2030, the Platform will hold a rural transformation roundtable in Rome, Italy on October 13th – 14th. Platform members and partners will examine the changing conditions in and for developing countries and through a close and informal exchange, will deliberate on what future donor support should look like.

IFAD rural development report 2016IFAD rural development report 2016__ Several major trends of development have framed the pace and the direction of rural development over the years. With the growing world population and therefore food demand, the wide spread urbanisation, the growing severity of irregular weather events and the spread of technology all over the world, pose new challenges and open new opportunities for rural areas and rural populations. To meet these challenges and use the opportunities, the rural areas need to transform rapidly and inclusively.
