Dear friend and supporter,
Thank you for your prayers and partnership! I have several exciting things to share with you this month.
National Discipleship Proposal
In July, Graduate & Faculty Ministries Director Bobby Gross and I submitted a proposal to InterVarsity’s Discipleship Task Force, for consideration as part of IVCF’s 2012-17 national strategic plan. We proposed creating a set of resources and models to equip undergraduates to follow Christ in their studies, work, and life.
The proposal has passed the first round, but we won’t find out whether it will be adopted (and funded) as part of the national strategic plan until this spring. Funding would include support for myself and possibly a second ESN staff member. Please pray for a favorable decision regarding this proposal.
Equipping InterVarsity Staff
In August, Faculty Ministry Regional Coordinator Howard Van Cleave and I met with undergraduate InterVarsity staff from Ohio, Michigan, western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia at their regional staff meetings. We hosted a workshop on Faculty Ministry and ESN, and I was able to have conversations with staff from several campuses (including a new InterVarsity staff member at the University of Cincinnati) about how they can serve the emerging scholars within their chapters. Please pray for these conversations to develop into deeper partnerships.
New Records on the Emerging Scholars Blog
In August, the Emerging Scholars Blog set a new record for most visits! This was due to some terrific guest series: InterVarsity’s Kami Rice shared reflections while visiting Christians in India, and recent PhD recipient Hannah Eagleson wrote about “What I Wish I’d Known about Graduate School.” Currently, anthropology professor and ESN mentor Kevin Birth is sharing stories about life as a faculty member. You can read along at blog.emergingscholars.org.
Thank you for your prayers and partnership. Sharing this news with you is very encouraging, and I hope that you feel as I do that we are making a difference on campus.
